mami’s voice drips with honey, soft and melodic, but it does not bring a smile to judith’s face like it usually does. she knows that mami is trying, she knows that it’s hard for all of them ( mami especially, as she and carl had been childhood friends since before the outbreak ), but judith simply cannot collect herself. she has known death for her entire life, it’s never far away, yet somehow she had never believed that death might take her older brother. of course she had thought about it before, worried about it, but nothing could have prepared her for this. nobody had been ready, as it almost always is with death, especially that of someone so youthful.
❛ it’s not fair ! ❜ she sobs, wringing her small fingers around mami’s sleeve as she buries her face into it. she isn’t thinking about how it will dampen the girl’s shirt, or about how loud she is being. all that matters is that her best friend has been taken from her, and there is nothing they can do to get him back. she would do anything to see his smile again, so rare yet so healing, or to hear his voice. ❛ he wasn’t supposed to go. not yet. ❜ she supposes that if she had been much older, maybe she would have been better prepared. now it seems like all of the years spent with carl have dwindled away, leaving nothing but momentos and traces of the past. he taught her how to fire a pistol, a rifle, he taught her where to hide when necessary. he taught her respect, he taught her love. and he taught her not to dwell on neither the past nor the future, but rather the present moment. that’s how he had done it, yet somehow her protector is gone, leaving her to mourn alone.
but she is not alone at all.
❛ mami ? ❜ she whispers, inhaling deeply before gazing up at her with soft brown eyes. ❛ i don’t think he would want us to be sad. ❜ it’s easy to say, but harder to actualize. ❛ he would want us to be happy because he’s in a better place. he told me about it. about heaven. and one day we’ll see him again. ❜ her eyes pool with tears once again. ❛ but right now, we have each other, and we have daddy and mama. and we have to help them not be so sad, too. ❜

how does t'challa deal with betrayal & forgiveness ?
␥ ⸺⸺ A SUBJECT AND RELATED META ╱ SELECTIVE.
NOT A REALLY TOUGH ONE, BECAUSE HE’S LIKE PRETTY CLEAR TO SEE THROUGH. t’challa is forgiving, when he believes that you deserve forgiveness. he obviously holds grudges, per point: klaue, bucky, etc. he obviously will go out of his way to settle a blood grudge or any of the sort that he feels like he needs to settle. but that doesn’t mean that he does not know forgiveness if he thinks you deserve it. he can admit when he was wrong, ala bucky, and he can admit when he’s been too harsh ( ala n’jadaka, but in general that was not a grudge but simply a blood feud ).
he tends to take betrayals like w’kabi’s and hunters ( white wolf; 616 ) to hurt. he takes family and friends so seriously and he doesn’t trust easily so when someone close to home betrays him, he’s really hurt. after everything was said and done, he’d probably forgive w’kabi in a way... but he would never trust him again. the same thing as said with hunter, who left their family and their country and in turn brings shame to them in way, he’d unbanish him but only to the point where he wouldn’t have to speak to him again. he’s forgiving in his own way, he has a pure heart -- he just has to be convinced if that makes sense.
consider the fact that he would have completely killed klaue, and that w’kabi is designed as ‘in custody’. he would have killed klaue if he could for w’kabi, because w’kabi asked him too and w’kabi deserves to be paid the blood price for what that outside did. but he did not kill w’kabi after w’kabi betrayed him, overthrew him, and started a mini civil war within their borders. he had every right to kill the man, but he didn’t. he loved w’kabi, with all of his heart, and he probably will and does forgive him. but their friendship is over, he won’t ever let w’kabi close like that again unless something drastic happens in their relationship.
he tends to take betrayals to heart, tends to clam up and go cold -- especially to the people the betrayed him. he’s a sweet man, who has his demons, but he wants to be loved and he wants to give love in return. and for people to throw that in his face, he won’t forget that. he won’t give it twice if they ask.
