Water is more essential than gold. Whaat? You gotta be kidding me.

Well, not a day goes by when I do not hear or read something or other about water scarcity in some part of the world. We all must have heard about it, numerous times in fact. But we don’t really care about it, do we? I mean, I did not, not until a few months ago. I used to read about the issues and problems surrounding water scarcity, and just feel sorry and pathetic for their plight, for a couple seconds, and then get along with doing whatever it is that I was doing, probably ripping open my Pellegrino sparkling water bottle (Nah, I take that back, don’t wanna lie. Pellegrino’s too expensive for me, lol. I’m more a Mt Franklin man myself.), and throwing the bottle in the bin when it’s got about a quart still left, because the last quart of ANY bottle apparently ‘tastes’ bad.

Mayn, just looking back at what I was, brings a melancholic smile to my lips. Sigh. But, I have changed, for the better, and life is all about that little progress every day, ain’t it? At least, I know I am on the right track.

Mate, Water REALLY IS more essential than gold. Or platinum for that matter. Or even diamonds. Did ya notice that I capitalized & personalized Water like we always do for word ‘G’od? I have personally personified Water to be a very respectable person in dire need of help. Any help. Makes me connect more, know what I mean? Water scarcity affects EVERY continent in the world, some more than others, of course. Please allow me to throw a few numbers around (I know this part ceases to attract any attention whatsoever, and you’re probably gonna skim through it, having an image of a mal-nourished African kid, crawling on dry, barren earth, trying ridiculously hard to rid yourself of that image. But I sincerely request you, human-to-human, to just read the next two lines, very slowly. Imagine you are one among them, I pray and God forbid it doesn’t ever happen, but do imagine. Because, I am one of the very few who believes that Imagination is more powerful than knowledge.).

Water scarcity affects 2.1 billion people around the world at least one month of every year. 1.2 billion people lack access to clean drinking water.

Billion. Just let that sink in for a moment. Your suburb probably has about 10,000 people. A billion is 10 times that, 10 times thaat, 10 times thaaat, 10 times thaaaat AND 10 times thaaaaat! Allow me to put that in math language.

10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x (Your suburb/city) = 1,000,000,000 billion. Phew! *wipes sweat of brow*

In a world of 7 billion-ish, that’s about a 15% who are really deep in s**t, excuse my French. Just my passion rubbing off. Stop. Give a deep thinky here.

Don’t you think we ought to be sooper, dooper blessed that we aren’t part of that huge number. And here we are screaming F**k my life because your car looks less nicer compared to your neighbour’s, or cos someone scratched your new Merc or cos your neighbour’s kitchen is more ‘prettier & shinier’. Let’s make an honest attempt to wake up, shall we?
