“Permethrin” to share a little memory aide?
If you’re like me, you are not blessed with an eidetic memory and anything that will make things easier to remember is a good thing™.
1% permethrin --> 1 looks like “L” for LICE
5% permethrin --> 5 looks like “S” for SCABIES
Or, as one of my senior residents said: “1% treats ONE thing, the lice on your head; 5% treats FIVE fingers, for the scabies hanging out between them!”
...Which sounds super gross, yes, and now I feel really itchy.

My cat was laying in my lap this morning and I noticed a tremor in his leg
I looked it up and said permethrin can cause this... my aunt sprayed horse flyspray on my pants yesterday to protect from ticks...
It can also be caused by fluid loss and my cat had diarrhea for like a week
I got a vet appointment this afternoon
This is all I need!
I was so tired I slept most of the night couldn't believe it was 7 when I woke up . Felt like going back to sleep but then thought oh, citrus repels cats ill put that on my bed so he doesn't use it for a bathroom again by that point i might as well wake up buy at the point I feel I might need to take a nap later
Probably not
Pets then vet this morning/afternoon...
I hope it isn't serious! He is still xtra thin after tooth surgery
Growing Things
First mosquito bite of the season! Somehow it doesn’t seem fair that we pay for warmer temperatures with wind and mosquitoes. It seems as if the mosquitoes (one, anyway) are out earlier than usual, but I don’t really remember when I got my first bite last year. I do remember it was right below the eye, just like this one. One of these days when I have plenty of time and the air is still, I’ll…

SCABIMITE Cream 30 grams Scabies Infection Skin 5% PERMETHRIN
COMPOSITION: Permethrin 5% PHARMACOLOGY: Permethrin is a broad-spectrum anti-parasite against mites, body lice and other anthropods. Nix Cream Rinse: Permethrin 1%.
Nix Lice Control Spray: Permethrin 0.25% (for use on furniture).
Nix Ultra Solution: Contains mineral oil and dimethicone.
FDA Indication/Dosages:
For the treatment of head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) with Nix cream rinse:
1. Wash hair with regular shampoo, rinse with water and towel dry.
2. Shake bottle well.

4. Rinse with water.
5. Remove nits (eggs) with the nit comb provided.
Pharmacology: Permethrin is a pediculicide that acts on the nervous system of the lice to cause paralysis and death. It is active on lice and their unhatched eggs. Permethrin stays on the hair and scalp and provides pediculicide activity for 14 days. Nix Ultra Solution contains mineral oil and allows easy removal with a professional nit comb (included).
Evaluation: Lice are small parasites that infect hairy parts of the human body, especially the scalp. Although they can be seen with the naked eye, diagnosis is usually by visualization of the eggs (nits) they lay. The eggs are white and are connected to a hair shaft close to the skin. As the hair grows, the egg moves away from the skin. They usually hatch in 5-10 days. The easiest area to observe the lice and eggs is behind the ear and on the back of the neck. Lice bite the host and feed off of their blood. A louse bite may cause a local reaction including itching.
Contraindications/Precautions: For external use only - do not use near the eyes of mucous membranes. If contact with the eyes occurs, immediately flush with water. Do not use on infants less than 2 months of age.
Adverse Effects: Itching, redness, or swelling of the skin may occur. Rare hypersensitivity reactions have occurred including bronchospasm.
Patient Consultation:
Follow application direction closely.
If infestation of the eyebrows occurs, apply petrolatum ophthalmic ointment to the eyebrows for 8 days and remove nits during treatment. If this fails, consult a physician.
Lice can live on clothes and linen. Disinfect clothing and linen including bed sheets by dry cleaning or washing in hot water and dry in a clothes’ drier. Disinfect combs by soaking in hot water for 10 minutes. Pediculicides sprays are available for carpet and furniture.
