I kind of love the idea of a Perpetual who's had a falling out with the Emperor and genuinely wants nothing to do with him (as 99% of Perpetuals are wont to do) just repeatedly admiring a new public figure from afar, only to find out its Neoth yet again.

The new religious figure whose sermons are taking the world by storm? Love that guy--fuck, its Neoth

The new king uniting the warring tribes of [land] under a single banner? How invigorating--fuck, its Neoth

The new scientist whose brilliant innovative contributions to medical technology have been dramatically improving mankinds quality of life? So inspiring--fucK IT'S NEOTH

It'd be like dating a celebrity, having a bad breakup and then having to see their face plastered everywhere, but instead you KEEP accidentally admiring them every 100 years and it goes on FOREVER

Or at least until you hit the point where whenever someone tells you about a new up-and-coming influential man, you're like "I BET IT'S NEOTH. I BET IT'S THAT FUCKING GUY AGAIN"

Virtual Insanity is such an Emperor coded song, not necessarily in the sense that he would sing it but rather how the people around him are seeing him(specifically Erda, the perpetuals and Amar Astartes) since Big E is playing god(s?) with his gene and Warp craft to make the primarchs and space marines, tools meant for the rapid violent conquest of humanity.

Better the Devil You Know Than the Devil You Don't

What if the Emperor of Mankind had sacrificed Terra's Old Guard—the perpetuals and other beings in all cultural myths that held back the chaos demiurge like an immune system? He wanted the old gods dead and forgotten, their godhead and scions with them. Science and logic reign. We are talking about beings that have terrified humanity since the dawn of time and were humanity's natural immune system in the warp. All the wickedness, malicious evil was strictly local to our little cradle of life and kept the Gods of Chaos OUT. Emps destroyed them all, sealing their fates. That was the deal he had made with Chaos. Get rid of "gods" - gain power and... warp souls. So, with the Olde Guard gone, the gates lay open for Chaos and Emperor, playing the role of Trickster, had what he wanted (and a little more) and slammed the gates closed. Chaos never forgets. The perpetuals lost their godheads. Some, like Odyn, found their ways to other planets to play shadows of their former selves. They will never forget. And now you have the Emperor on the Golden Throne, stretched too thin over the ages, being the only being holding Chaos back. That's like being on a dialysis machine for the rest of your life.

What are your thoughts on the Perpetual phenomenon? Have you or the Consortium at large captured any of these individuals and / or experimented on them in an attempt to replicate the effect?

The door to the laboratory closes with a very final-sounding grating sound right in front of Oleander's nose as he is about to follow the Clonelord in. With an indignant growl, he stops and looks at the closed passageway as if anger alone could open it again.

With a wave, Fabius orders a Servo Skull carrying a Lumen Globe towards him. With his usual quick stride, he makes his way to his desk and drops into the chair, his eyes still fixed on the message on the datapad.

The Servo Skull obediently adjusts the light to the optimum setting, while the Chief Apothecary begins to compose a reply in concentration.

This anomaly is not particularly well known and yet the knowledge of it found its way to me very early on. Of course, I am interested in it for obvious reasons, as I have created an artificial version of the phenomenon to ensure my continued existence. Whilst it is not always advantageous to rise again in the same place, in general such rapid cell renewal could have potential to complement my method.

All my observations so far - not just of the perpetual phenomenon, but of the different variations of cheating the final death that I have encountered - suggest that non-scientific methods are most likely to go back to the chaotic monsters worshipped by many as gods. However, since the earliest accounts of perpetuals go back much further than we know of these monsters, this must be due to either conscious contact or a version we have not yet encountered.

Naturally, I would like to get my hands on such an individual, but this is a difficult endeavour as they are so rare that psykers seem commonplace by comparison. And apparently their biology is otherwise no different from the basic phenotype. Another obstacle in singling them out for capture.

Well, luckily I have my own method of defying death, so I have time to find such a mutated creature.

Stupidest non-cannon Headcannon: 40k edition.

10-15% of the imperial guard are perpetuals. Half of those haven’t even realized it yet. This so because the non-perpetuals are killed over time. Due to the administrative hell that is the imperium, no one has noticed.
