the hardest part about my job is turning away a dog that needs help.
we had a grandmother come in with a corgi, an older corgi and she just wanted to get it bathed before her daughter and husband came back from the mayo clinic. She was with the grandchildren for two weeks and she was so overwhelmed.
i began to bathe the dog but it was infested with ticks and very lethargic when getting bathed. policy at work states that we have to return the dog to the owner because this is no longer in our control. we had to call her and let her know that she had to take the dog to the vet because if we continued, it could cause an infestation for the rest of the dogs there and would be harmful to us as well.
the grandmother was in tears when we had to explain this to her. she was so exhausted, so overwhelmed by the grandkids [both under the age of ten] and now she had just one more thing to worry about. she tipped my twenty dollars. i kept trying to tell her no, i didn’t do a thing on the dog but she insisted. she was so out of her element and i caused her to have something else to worry about.
i dunno, this felt good writing it out. i still feel awful. i know she’s going to take that dog to the vet but i want her to catch a break. her daughter and husband should be back by tuesday and i hope that happens. i hope that the dog is able to get better and is able to come back to us and i’d be able to do the service.
just.
please be careful this season. fleas and ticks are bad this year. please get your animals treated before it becomes an infestation. get your yard treated. please.
i want to help, i do. but i can’t if they’re draining the dog of its blood.
