Sergeant Sullivan ("Boots" on Netflix) - personal playlist
I decided to create a little themed playlist for getting myself into the mood to write fanfics with Sullivan - and maybe some of you guys are interested in seeing/hearing this (I don't have a Spotify account, so you have to click on every single song to get to a youtube-video...old-fashioned ;)
Music and character interpretations are quite personal, so some of you may not see the connection between the songs and Sergeant Sullivan or might interpret the mood of the song completely different - but that's ok :D Mind you: Most of the songs I did NOT pick because of the lyrics, but because of the music, the atmosphere it creates, the overall vibes. Many songs are dark, melancholic, painful, some are a bit sexy, the last 3 ones are quite energetic and for imagining Sullivan in fight scenes. So enjoy a little dive into my personal Sergeant Sullivan-headspace...and tell me what you think if you like :) - more under the cut.
Status Quo - In the army now - this was one of the first songs that came to my mind when thinking about Sullivan. I imagine this song to be about him, when he first joined the Marines as a scrawny 18-year old, and the being confronted with war. Powerful song!
Tanita Tikaram - Twist in my sobriety - I don't know why, but this song randomly came to me - I didn't hear it recently, it just popped into my mind. I think it has a beautiful melancholic feel to it, because of the clarinet (?). When I looked up when this song was published, I smiled - it was in September 1988, so Sullivan could have heard this during the "Boots"-time :)
Woodkid - Iron - this is one of my personal all-time-favourite songs, because I love the trumpets and the drums sooo damn much! I love the sadness, pain and the power this song conveys - so fitting for Sullivan.
A-HA - Crying in the rain - another all time favourite of mine, because yeah - so bittersweet. Also love the metaphor of crying in the rain, so the tears are not visible. Fitting!
A-Ha - Stay on these roads - this has such a longing feeling to me and has this fitting late 80's sound to it :) And again, Sullivan could have heard it during the time "Boots" is taking place.
R.E.M. - The Outsiders - this is a song that I already liked for many years, but never knew the title. I always listened to it on a REM CD my mum has. I like the calmness of this song, it's flowy, very melodic and also gives me a melancholic feeling.
Fallulah - Give us a little love - this song I got to know because of the Boots-fandom. I heard it the first time as a background music to an edit with Sullivan & Aaron - and loved it immediately! I watched this edit several times and I have to say, this probably marked the start of my current passion/obsession :D Beauuuutiful song!
Kosheen - Addict - ah, this is such a good song - and it has a wonderful sexy, dark energy! Love this one for picturing Sullivan, especially together with his menacing stare :)
Aethetic perfection - Dead zone - This also has quite a dark energy, but is also very powerful, beautiful and melancholic. I think it fits his attitude nicely.
Muse - Map of the problematique - this has a great energy, it's going forward, but still transports the pain. I can imagine this in a scene where Sullivan is driving in his car, angry, crying, in pain, when he just wants to get away...
Depeche Mode - Walking in my shoes - this is one of the few songs in the list where the text fits to Sullivan as well (at least in my opinion)
Borislav Slavov - SOS New York (Soundstrack of Crysis 2) - I wanted to add a few "action songs" where I can imagine Sullivan in battle - this is a great instrumental and is so powerful!
Battlefield 1942 theme - yeah, same here - great powerful military music, great for imagining battles and fight situations
X-Ray dog - Screaming souls - Another very powerful driving song that kind of emits Sullivan's energy
Thank you so much for reading and listening <3 And I'm tagging @allforreading-fandomthings - you said you were interested in this :)
Lowkey cannot wait for the end of the year because I made a promise to drop my spotify liked playlist on a disorder I'm in.
I've kinda been tailor making this playlist to have weird and obscure shit as revenge for them being incredibly reddit (and not even in the funny sense, just goddamn annoying.) Anyways, I'd be fine to drop it here, but do note that there is a lot of harsh industrial and noise.
