Social media is “lynch first, maybe question later”
Which is why callouts are so dangerous these days, especially fake or overblown ones. If you’re knowingly calling out someone as a bad person even though they haven’t abused or harmed anyone IRL but are treating them like they did, you’re part of the problem.
Everything is 1500% more reactionary than it’s ever been. People see a callout and go ham harassing the target, instead of taking a step back and making sure they’ve actually:
A) got all the info from a non-biased perspective, and
B) the person in question actually did what they’re accused of. Not framed in a ‘oh they like fictional [x] so they’re clearly [y]’ way, Did. They. Do. What. They’re. Accused. Of.
Callouts should be a last resort, not a first step. They should be about someone’s actual real life behaviours with other people, not just because they happen to like fictional problematic shit.
And if you do want to add their fictional crap to a callout, don’t make it the first or only fucking thing you talk about.
If you’re talking about someone who grooms minors, focus on that first, not what they ship.
If someone’s a huge racist? Don’t even mention they stan [x] if it’s irrelevant to their racism.
Fiction does not take priority over other living people.
