Personal Symbolism - Color
Symbol - Something that represents something else by association, resemblance, or convention, especially a material object used to represent something invisible. - from The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition.
Symbols are powerful thing. Like the terminologies we used, the whole of our myriads of experiences, condence down to various terms. Flags are a type of symbol. The colors themselves another layer of symbolism.
So many things tied to the simple composition between the primary colors.
My color is orange. Energy, attention, enthusiasm, joy, autumn, fox. There are numerous other objects being associated and represented by orange. In some game, the gears that are consider legendary use the color orange as a signifier. In some anime, orange got associate either as the central power, or a secret side character.
In my case, it is my fur color, it is my personality, it is my hearttype's personal color, it is my para-heartlink's coat color, I could probably argue that my kardiatype has a shade of orange as his horn color. Sometimes I'd like to joke to myself that I'm orangekin. The amount of orange I have in my life--my window top bar, my phone stand, my switch casing, my water bottle, my jacket, cap, shoes…you get the idea. The level of importance and significance orange is so huge to me, so much so that sometimes I wonder if the orange came first or the dragonself caused the orange. It's probably the former. Which really doesn't explain anything, but I suppose it isn't that important. It might be helpful to understand me or to tell my story. Nonetheless, it simply just is.
Because I am a dream dragon, I associate orange with dream. Which is a bit funny, usually I see people associate pink and white with dreams. Though according to Katekyo Hitman Reborn, orange is associate the sky/ozone. I do not know how that worked, but hey, "head in the clouds" is daydreaming.
In a sense, I have my personal symbolism, and it took over the world around me, or I reshape meaning in the way I understood it. In a sense, instead of rose tinted glasses, my world is orange. Although, here is yet another funny and almost ironic thing, my dragonself eyes is pearlescent tinted with pink. I am in a sense, literally seeing through rose tinted windows.
It's hard to see things apart when needed. I latch onto the fact that canon Naruto's signature color is orange. I don't know if my Naruto's own color is. Though Kurama is orange still, I envision Naruto's own personal summon (basically familiar of the ninja) is white (oh hey, noema jumpscare). Is it because of this orangeness I want everything just as vibrant and brightly colored? My Flight Rising lair is full of chaos and eyeburning color combos.
Ah, chaos. I suppose in some way, orange can be a sort of chaotic color. No? I'm reaching?
I think in some way, orange is like my draconity, just as loud and as big a presence, as central and core to my identity. Without it I wouldn't be who I am today.
One of the things I notice when I see people is their hands. Are they wearing rings? What do they mean to them? Scars? Watches or bracelets? Such a vital way we interact with the world.
Until fairly recently I didn’t wear much. Before I got engaged at 29 I didn’t wear any rings and hadn’t consistently worn a watch in years. I had plenty of scars but that was it.
What’s there is what I’ve worn every day since I got sober 18 months ago. A Fitbit charge 5 that I use as a watch more than anything. I originally wanted it in a fit of paranoia after my 38th birthday. I was freaking out and suddenly wanted something to help motivate me to get it better shape.
The wolf with the triquetra knots on the side is right index. I love wolves and have followed stories of their reintroduction in the lower 48 for years. I was a kid growing up in Wyoming when they were first reintroduced to Yellowstone. I find it fascinating what wolves mean to different cultures. To me they mean family (blood or chosen) and the importance of predators and the balance they provide. The knots are not only my faith, but the idea that everything is a result if something else and that some things/people/memories/ideas never end. I wanted something that represented my past but was also a sign of my own changes. It’s a statement piece and a reminder.
The black ring with blue chain center goes on my right ring finger. The chain spins. I have ADHD and can’t ever sit still so now I wear something I can discreetly play with all the time.
The band just to the right of the wolf is my Claddagh wedding ring. I’ve known my wife since I was a junior in college and we’ve been married eight years.
The lower right one is silver on the outside and blue on the inside. It says “Do or do not, there is no try” in Aurebesh. I got that one when I first tried (and failed) to get sober. It took me almost two more years after the first try before sobriety stuck.
Happy Sunday.

Self-portrait inspired by today’s lesson.
Uniform inspired by Utena.
Did this one in about an hour and a half, much quicker than my extended works.
A lot of personal symbolism.
Not the same as the ‘soul portrait’ stuff I do, this is based on my physical appearance.
This is a phone photo, I’ll scan in a final version later.
