opinion: just being on this site and being Progressive™ doesn’t give you a free pass to joke about “funny trendy tumblr words” used by marginalized groups on here who are already having a hard time being taken seriously in any capacity just for trying to describe and affirm their identity and life experiences to other people. you’re doing the “tumblrina snowflakes” thing, just from the inside instead of the outside.

memes in the vein of “you are valid”, “aphobic or possibly terfy” or this new “polyamorous queerplatonic datemates” aren’t harmless jokes to the trans, asexual, aromantic, etc people who actually use those phrases and get laughed at and further marginalized for it.

you can’t just say “oh, but i actually support them, i just think this is funny and culturally relevant right now”. be honest. do you care about the friends, family, followers, or strangers you hurt or not? because you’re helping making fun of them go viral. you know how people who don’t have triggers ruined “triggered”? it’s like that.

if you’ve never had to say these things seriously, you don’t get to joke about them, no matter how much of an “ally” you think you are. be respectful.

My paternal grandmother passed away this morning.

I haven’t had a lot to do with her since my mid teens since I was estranged from my dad, and I don’t think she ever forgave me for it.

But it’s still sad, and I miss the person she once was to me.

And now I only have one grandparent left. It’s a very sad feeling.
