Northeast Blackout of 1965

Fifty four years ago, the northeast blackout happened, taking out electricity in NY, CT, MA, NH, NJ, RI, PA, VT, & ON. It lasted for about 13 hours.

Essentially it was very cold in southern Ontario, so there were higher power demands. Apparently the signal were very heavy and the safety relay was not working, so it did not disconnect. So some power went to a power plant in New York which disabled power in Ontario. Long story short, there was too much power in the system for New York and then it overloaded to other places in the northeast got that excess power which caused the blackout.
