May 30, 1720 - Investment Opportunity: We’re Going To Grow Hemp In Scotland!
A Design is set on Foot, and Legal Measures are taken to obtain a Charter from the Government, for Planting Hemp in Scotland and Ireland, in order to make Sail-Cloth, Cordage for Shipping, &c. and Nets of all sorts for Fishing, by an Incorporated Society consisting of Persons of Character and Substance, who are provided with the ablest Manufacturers of each Sort to carry on the Design in good Earnest, for the Honour and Advantage of the Government, as will [sic] as for the Profit of the Adventurers; of which Publick Notice shall be given in a little Time. Any Person who in the Interim desires further Satisfaction, may Enquire of Mr. Long, Banker, at the Blackmore’s-Head in Lombard-street.
