Hear me out here
I think DC should try to make a story or event an event following modern day trends or memes, but not tell them until the end of the story what the inspiration for the whole thing was.
Let's have a group of characters who wouldn't normally interact be forced to team up, since a threat has made all other options unavailable... Let's say Barbara Gordon needs to lead a team including characters like Black Manta, Vulko, Tula Marius, Deadman and Vic Sage.
Coming from the future and finding their powers strangely enhanced, enemies of the legion of superheroes the fatal five have managed to capture a variety of Earth's heroes and villains, it is up to our main group to somehow find a way to defeat them.
As the story concludes you have seen the characters team up, you have seen them go through a lot to defeat the fatal five, and by this pount maybe you've forgotten that there's a secret gimmick to this whole story that they're not telling you about.
You see... The selection of characters for this team and the choice of the fatal five as the villains wasn't an arbitrary decision. All of these characters were chosen because of one thing they have in common...
You see... They were all introduced...
