🇹🇭HIDDEN GEM // Delicious food from Khanom Thai @khanomthairestaurant on Bulwer Street, Perth. Super friendly service here and the food was great as well. Thanks to @fonfonpalida for recommending this place! Menu on last two pics. We had the following: - Prawn Crackers (complimentary) - Whole steamed red snapper with Thai dressing $35 - Tamarind Prawns $18.50 - Beef Thai Chilli Basil $17 - Thai Tea Milk $3 each - Steam Rice $2pp - Luk Chup with jelly (complimentary) The steamed fish was perfectly cooked and paired so well with the tangy and slightly spicy Thai dressing. Tamarind prawns were crispy and the beef Thai chilli basil was tender. Thai milk tea was strong and tasted great - one of the best ones in Perth imo. INVITED 🇹🇭 // Newly-opened Street’s Oasis in Girrawheen started off as a food truck and now they’ve got their own shop! We got to try the following dishes: - Thai Boat Noodle Soup $13 - Gyozas: Pork and Chive dumplings $12 - Salt & Pepper Squid $12 - Yellow Curry with tiger prawns $22 - Sum Tom (papaya salad) $13 - Kra Pao Moo Krob (crispy pork belly with Chinese broccoli, chilli & basil) $15 - Thai Milk Tea - original & pandan $5ea Dish of the night was the Thai Boat Noodle Soup! The thick broth was flavoursome and we couldn’t stop sipping it. It came loaded with rice noodles, pork mince, tender pork slices, pork balls etc. Really enjoyed the crispy gyozas (they make the skin themselves too), crispy and succulent salt & pepper squid, delicious prawn yellow curry and refreshing papaya salad too. The addition of fresh sweet corn slices to the papaya salad elevated the freshness of the dish. Thanks so much Mushal and Ne for having us and sharing your personal journey with us. Mushal and Ne’s ethnicity is Karen (the largest ethnic minority in Myanmar). They lived in Thailand’s refugee camp for 13 years due to ongoing civil unrest in Myanmar before moving here in 2007. BANGKOK BROTHERS // Doo Dee noodle soup with egg noodles, spicy level 1 (aud14.90); Stir-fried morning glory (aud15.90); Massaman Wagyu Beef (aud22.90); Rice (aud3.50) from Bangkok Brothers, Northbridge. Delicious doo dee noodle soup (they don’t normally give you this menu - ask for it! Or refer to it on last few pics 😉) with generous soft pork mince, tender pork and pork balls. Beef Massaman curry was flavoursome and the tender meat fell apart easily. Pork balls, with fresh cabbage, ginger, lemon and chilli; aud15 at Six Senses Leederville for 'Thai Night' - an event in Perth perhaps only known to the Thai community in Perth. Only heard about this event as my friend's colleague was Thai. The event started at 11:30pm and featured two Thai bands as their live acts. The food menu was written in Thai and no English translation was available unless you brought along your personal translator. 😂 Our fellow diner kindly explained that you're supposed to take the cabbage and wrap it around the pork ball along with ginger, lemon juice and chilli. She demonstrated eating it with the red hot bird's eye chilli nonchalantly. I was not game enough to try and omitted the ginger and chilli, even though my spicy tolerance was quite high. Delicious, juicy pork balls that had quite a high fat content like chorizo - apparently these were only available on that night and not on their usual menu.
