A grimy old shed off the coast of Lake Michigan probably wasn’t the best place to nurse a princess back to health — if she was a princess. Dick wasn’t sure whether he should take her seriously — but it was the best he could do without giving away his identity. He’d bought the place with the intention of setting it up for himself, whenever he was out of town and needed medical aid, but right now, she needed it more. 

Plus, the rural setting might help her. She seemed like a hippie. This can be considered a rural area, right? Dick was never entirely sure about these things. 

He placed a fever pack on her forehead, and checked the stitches on her arm once again to make sure they hadn’t come out. Dick had been careless about his own state of health in the past, but when it came to others, he left no stone unturned. 

I don’t even know her name, Dick realised. Even after cleaning all the blood from her arm and her chest — that’d been awkward — he didn’t even know her name. He didn’t know where she was from. He hardly knew anything about her, and she’d still tried to protect him. 

There was nothing left to do but wait, and try to keep her fever down. Gently, Dick clasped her hand between both of his. Alfred’s first aid training, please don’t fail me now.
