Forgotten by Pete Rowbottom, Wigan, UK Via Flickr: Explore #35 30/03/20 I think this has to be one of my favourite locations that we visited on the recent trip to Skye, tucked out of the way and out of sight from pretty much everywhere lies this charachterful old ruin, surrounded by lots of equally interesting limestone pavement. The weather had been (as often is the case on Skye) extremely changeable with squalls of snow, rain, sleet, and hailstones occuring very frequently, however the light on this day had to be seen to be beleived, gorgeous warm breaks lighting up the landscape and really transforming the scene from drab and flat to a real golden beauty in a matter of seconds. It was just a case of setting up, waiting, getting wet, and being ready for when the light washed over this beautful part of the landscape, truly a day to remember. ================================================= Lots more images from this shoot, and others, on my website here - updating regularly =================================================

Spring Dawn by Pete Rowbottom Via Flickr: A fantastic morning up on White Moss with Terry Roberts and Brad Eide, this was a cracking place to get to just before the sun had risen over the tops allowing us to set up and watch the scene unfold. The valley below slowly filling with early morning light and glowing sunrays catching the remnants of the mist still hanging around the water, this really didn't last long and had we delayed getting up here we would have missed this light. I've posted one from here before but this is quite different as I've gone in a lot tighter into the scene with the zoom lens to give a more intimate feel to it. We tried our luck in the opposite direction towards Helm Crag after this but the light was very fleeting and I didn't really get anything I liked enough to keep. Worth having a zoom in on this one and having a look aorund. ================================================= Visit my website =================================================

Swirl by Pete Rowbottom, Wigan, UK Via Flickr: The last from a sequence of shots on the Elgol Coastline from this evening. This was just after Sunset and there is still some great colours in the sky, the tide was well on it's way in at this point and with each surge the waves broke higher up onto the beach leaving the photographer the job of picking the shutter speed and the right receding wave to shoot. A little further into the scene the sea is a lot more violent, and can be seen crashing over one of the remaining sea stacks. Hideaway by Pete Rowbottom Via Flickr: One of my favourite locations in the Lake District for Autumn, there are some fantastic trees around this area which have brilliant vividly coloured leaves that coat the rocks below and add another dimenion to this already beautiful scene. Getting to this spot isn't the easiest thing in the world to do as it's a choice between wading through some deep moving water or down an extremely steep and potentially dangerous bank, amazingly (for me) I came down the bank without incident and out via the water which for a change didn't come over the top of my wellies which I consider a massive result ! The location didn't dissapoint again this year although I really had to work hard for images due to the lens and filters fogging really badly. I didn't think I'd managed to get much from this composition until I checked back over the days shoot this morning and found this which was hiding away inbetween some shot's i'll end up canning. As I was leaving here there was a foreign couple on the waters edge that had been leaning arund the little grotto building trying to get pics of the waterfall behind it on their phones, they were trying allsorts and one was close to falling in hanging onto the building... when I got out of the water I said t them you do know you can go in there? he looked a bit blank so I opened up the unlocked door for him, she burst out lauighing and he seemed a bit embarassed but they both thanked me and seemed over the moon they could now get their shots.. you must wonder what they were thinking, "why has smeone plonked a big stone building RIGHT in front of this beautiful waterfall blocking the view" ?. The mind boggles.
Hideaway by Pete Rowbottom Via Flickr: A beautiful and very hidden away location in Southern Iceland, shooting the falls head on here is a really nice shot but walk through the water just around the corner is this great little cavern which provides a ready made frame for the falls. Even at the very back of the cavern it's a bit of a struggle to get it all in one shot but with a superwide lens it is possible, otherwise you are looking at a panorama of 3-4 shots, bit of a tricky balancing act though getting all the tripod set up and being able to see what you are framing while stumbling about on wet rock on an incline. Again a bit of perseverance and got there in the end. I'd imagine in really heavy snow and heavy rainfall times of the year this spot will probably be cut off or a real pain to get to.
