Rewatching private practice and remembering what a BIZARRE show it is. All these doctors are insufferable people and so so bad at their jobs and break the law on a daily basis, and the only rational person in the entire show is somehow made out as a villain for following the law and being normal (Charlotte king get behind me) 😭😭

I still eat it up tho

I was watching the below interview with Tim and he states that he hated filming Private Practice (32:17) which of course led me to re-watching Private Practice. I haven't watched it in about a decade, way before I was a Daly Stan but heavy into my ShondaLand phase. And while I can understand that he would hate the soapy nature of the show, (though I love primetime soap opera agnst) he acts circles around a lot of the cast and just does great work on the show. Even when Pete isn't the most likeable character, Tim's acting is just *chef's kiss*

There are so many moments and scenes that are just so freaking good but I just got to the season three premiere and WOW.

There is the little moment when Pete holds Lucas for the first time and Tim just captures the relief and awe in a wordless two seconds of screen time.

There is a flashback scene of Pete and Violet (Amy Brenneman's character) where Pete tells her about the night his first wife died. Tim has a beautifully delivered monologue that ends with him in tears and it's so good.

Honestly, even if you never watch the whole show, which to be honest isn't for everyone, do yourself a favor and watch Tim's scenes of the season three premiere A Death in the Family.

okay, i have a niche critique about private practice, (actually many), but this one is specifically about maya bennett. you’re telling me that two respected, competent ivy-league trained physicians neglected to teach their daughter about safe s*x? so much so that she ended up pregnant? i’m not saying it can’t happen (life happens), but maya should have it ingrained in her to be smart about it.

not to mention, the whole maya not trying very hard in school, rebel boyfriend-having phase never sat right with me. i get that they might have been trying to show the whole dichotomy of maya and naomi’s lives, but it seems super unrealistic to me. especially when the people i know who have doctor parents were so strict about school and their future success. it was literally ingrained in them to do well since birth and honestly that worthiness is determined by success (in my opinion)

and then maya gets into columbia university based on how intelligent and dedicated she supposedly is when none of her actions on the show support that. in any of the seasons.

in other words, unplanned pregnancy in medical dramas is my least favorite trope.
