2x08 - “Su-zakana”
It's vulnerable. I want to help it.
How Hannibal Characters Would Respond to Getting a Friendship Bracelet (A-Z)
GUYS THIS TOOK ME MULTIPLE HOURS. I DID IT ALL IN ONE SITTING. PLEASE. TRUST ME, YOU WILL FIND YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER IN HERE. GOD PLEASE THIS TOOK ME FOREVER.
Abel Gideon: He accepts it, but he loses it immediately. He doesn't ask for a replacement. I'm sorry. He'd make one for you, though, if he was bored enough.
Abigail Hobbs: She wears it!! It's a great anxiety toy, especially if she can twist it around her wrist or spin the beads on it. It breaks/falls off at some point, and she feels really bad about it, but she wore it as long as she could. She makes one for you, too, and it's super pretty. Some of the beads were carved -- by her -- from deer bones.
Alana Bloom: She wears it on days where she's certain that she'll see you, and on those days, she always makes sure she's wearing it in a noticeable way. She doesn't wear it every single day, and this is because she doesn't want it to feel like a commitment of some sort. Also, she's afraid of losing it.
Antony Dimmond: He's somewhat awkward about receiving it, and probably tries to sound ironic about his enthusiasm, but he's grateful. Actually, he doesn't know how to feel about it. Instead of wearing it on his wrist, he either wears it on his ankle or keeps it in his pocket.
Bedelia du Maurier: She'd keep it on her desk, or she would hang it on a jewelry rack. She likes to look at it, but she doesn't wear it. It isn't her style, but it serves as a reminder of her connection with you.
Bella Crawford: She gives you a hug and promises to keep it forever. Before she dies, she removes the plastic beads and makes a necklace that combines the beads from your bracelet with some of her old favorites (which she never knew what to do with, since she thought they were "too nice" to use on a regular craft). At her funeral, you receive the necklace, along with a handwritten note from Bella. She was thankful to finally have something to make with her old beads, it says.
Beverly Katz: When you give it to her, she smiles and puts it on immediately. Sometimes it's on her wrist, sometimes it's on her ankle, and sometimes she uses it to tie up her hair. She fidgets with it and twists it around when she's really stuck on something, and she admires the colors often. She starts closely analyzing your wardrobe to see what colors would look best if she made one for you, which she was in the process of doing when she died. You never learned what happened to the bracelet you gave her.
Brian Zeller: His response is underwhelming, and to be honest, he probably keeps it in a junk drawer somewhere. He understands the thought behind the gesture, though, so he offers to buy you a drink after you give it to him.
Chiyoh: It's hidden, but it's there. She's wearing it under her long sleeves.
Franklyn Froideveaux: He gave one to you first; you're just returning the favor.
Freddie Lounds: She acts like it isn't a big deal when you present it to her, and she probably makes a snide comment about it, but it's proudly displayed and clipped to her satchel at all times. When she gets in her car, she always checks to make sure it didn't fall off her carabiner while she was investigating the crime scene. She'll never tell you, but it's obvious that she treasures it.
Frederick Chilton: Much like Freddie, he pretends that it doesn't matter, even describing it as "childish" when you give it to him. However, when you offer to take it back, he refuses to give it to you and slides it into his pocket. One day, weeks later, he trips in the hallway. With his pantleg hitched slightly, you can see the thin outline of a beaded bracelet under his black dress socks. Oh, he also wears it to sleep, as well as in the shower. This man does NOT take it off, and if it breaks, he asks (somewhat desperately) for a new one.
Garret Jacob Hobbs: He either pretends to lose it (drops it on the ground and kicks it in the gutter) or gives it to Abigail so she can "gift" it to one of his victims. Most likely, he chooses the latter. Regardless, it isn't used properly.
Hannibal Lecter: He lectures you on the history and cultural significances of friendship bracelets worldwide, then wears it (under his suits, rarely visible unless he wants it to be) everywhere except the kitchen. When it breaks, he gathers the beads and strings from the floor and incorporates the materials into a beautiful sculpture about friendship, which he dedicates to you.
Jack Crawford: He thinks you're joking around or making fun of him, so he rejects it at first. However, you find a way to sneak it onto his desk when he isn't looking, which amuses him and makes him laugh. A few days later, the bracelet is immortalized in a small frame on his office wall.
Jimmy Price: He thanks you, and immediately points out the fact that the bracelet is his favorite color. He's surprised that you noticed, and it makes his day. Throughout the workday, he goes on tangents about the history of friendship bracelets (like Hannibal did, but Price is nerdier and worse) and he explains every step in the process of how plastic beads are made, recommending several documentaries along the way. Though he keeps it in his pocket when he's digging around in crime scenes, he always has it with him.
Margot Verger: She's very polite about receiving it, and you swear you see the smallest hint of a smile. She hangs it on her bedpost, or wraps it around her bedside lamp. She would feel childish for wearing it, and she doesn't want to attract unnecessary attention, but she wants it to be in a place she'll see it every day. When she needs some extra confidence, she wears it around her ankle.
Mason Verger: You shoot him 67 times in the chest and he dies and everyone gathers around him to step on him and crush his ribcage and jump up and down on his dead body in celebration. I'm sorry but I can't do this one. Mason fans dni. Shoutout to the actors & writers for making and portraying such a detestable character; everyone involved deserves a friendship bracelet for their hard work. This guy just disturbs me to my very core, and I can't get past it. Had to include him, though, since he's a very important character and I didn't want to pretend he doesn't exist.
Matthew Brown: He smiles wide and thanks you, and he wears it everywhere. When he's bored, you see him staring at it and admiring it. In return, Matthew gives you a bracelet of his own, but you're pretty sure it's made from human hair and teeth, specifically from a person you mentioned hating. It's odd, but it's how he shows his love.
Miriam Lass: She uses it as a hair tie or keeps it on her water bottle. She doesn't like the feeling of bracelets, but she wants to keep it in a way that's visible and mobile.
Molly Graham: The two of you make friendship bracelets together on a snowy day, talking about whatever and eating fun snacks. She wears it on her ankle until it breaks, but she will always have a photo of the two of you holding up your matching bracelets and smiling.
Peter Bernardone: He loves it, and he wears it all the time. He washes it when it gets dirty, which is often because of his job in the stables. He tries to make one for you, but he struggles with fine motor skills, so he eventually gives up and asks if he can tie some twine around your wrist instead. When it breaks, he feels very sorry and asks for another. You make a few different backups for him, which makes him feel very loved.
Reba McClane: She can't see it, so you make it with textured beads that would provide a better sensory experience. She likes it, and she feels it on her wrist when she's bored or stressed. Reba is very thankful for your friendship, and expresses it frequently. She doesn't know exactly how to thank you, so she lets you pick the movie when you hang out next time.
The Stag: Thanks to you, the stag's antlers are now accessorized to perfection :) no more nightmares; just a colorful cervid.
Tobias Budge: If you make the bracelet normally, Tobias won't care for it. He critiques your color choice and remarks that it would look silly against his fashion sense. However, if you use high-end materials, craft it very carefully, and add well-placed musical symbols and elements to the project, he will appreciate it greatly. He might even play a song for you.
Walter Graham: In his opinion, friendship bracelets are for girls, but he thanks you and asks how you made it. You show him how to do it, and he makes one for you, his mom, and Will.
Will Graham: He doesn't know what to do with it, so he smiles awkwardly, nods, thanks you, and slides it onto his wrist. Throughout the day, he switches between wearing it on his right wrist, left wrist, fidgeting with it in his hands, and keeping it in his pocket. He isn't sure why you made a bracelet for him, but he doesn't want to seem ungrateful. That night, he makes a lure inspired by you (trust me, it's a thing) and wonders if you'll ever take him up on his offer to go fishing.

(Secretary, 2002) (Hannibal, 2013)
wahhh can you sum up rdc7 for us plebs who couldn’t go <333
Oh, my dear friend! My emotions are still pretty raw and I started writing this post on Monday while I was waiting at the airport on my way back, but I'm going to do my best. 😭
I believe that the opening ceremony on Friday started more or less on time and let me tell you, I had tears in my eyes, not only because I saw Hugh Dancy and Lara Jean Chorostecki, but also because of the stuff Jeremy Davies shared with us; he warned us that his spirit may be very low this weekend as two days earlier his dear friend died.
The meeting with the actors was very nice, however I wasn't expecting it to take place so long. Lara said that she really loves my hair and I blushed (and I still regret that I didn't bring my Freddie-like-clothes since I have a similar sense of style, but I was afraid of dying of heat in the UK). When it turned out that not only both Lara and I, but also one more person at our table were Libras, we started talking about how we cannot decide on anything and so on, lol. Ricky... Ricky was a lot! He started with hugging every single person. Hugh is now aware of the salmon shirt of seduction (slutty salmon shirt) and the reason why the Hannibal fanart is/was hanging in the Capitol. I truly loved Jeremy's jacket that he made himself — there was a lot of anti-nazi patches, but also Martin Luther King and feminist ones.
I ran out of my bracelets on Friday... and I had almost 200 of them!
On Saturday I had a photo with Hugh, Lara, Ellen and Jeremy. Jeremy was apologising that everything happens so fast and that he is happy to be here. I was taking notes on the panels, because lets face it — my memory is horrible. The most interesting things from the Saturday's panels are for me:
Ellen and Lara's:
- Ellen would like to be a nurse, Lara would like to be a psychiatrist, lol
- Lara thinks that Hannibal didn't kill Freddie because, “Why bother?” — she may be useful, she isn't that rude and she is actually always right
- Freddie would look for Will and Hannibal in Cuba while trying to stay “polite enough to not be killed”
- Lara rewatched the series before the con (or at least episodes with Freddie Lounds)
- Ellen's brother has a crush on Freddie Lounds
- both Lara and Ellen were saying how important it is to check your breast to prevent breast cancer (true)
- I didn't catch the localisation, but prosthetics from Hannibal are still on display, so Lara passes “Freddie's” dead body every single time when she is at work
- mushrooms are confusing food both for Ellen and Lara. Lara's partner would eat everything but her? No
- if killed, Lara would like to be a cute dumpling. Ellen would like to be a cupcake. Both these things are small and cute, just like them
- if there was a zombie apocalypse to happen, Ellen would be the first to die because she is a people pleaser. Ricky would survive
- Lara is getting engaged!!!
Demore, Jeremy and Ricky:
- Ricky's comment on the zombie apocalypse? “It's walking dead. Just run!”
- during the filming of the audition tape, Ricky messed up and sent a video of himself without his face, just from his neck to his crotch. His accent was so good he got the part, lol
- Demore has injured his back two days before shooting the fight scene so if we look closely at the moments when there is only his back is visible, we may see that in these moments that wasn't him but his stunt double
- Demore thought that this is some homeless man telling him that he really loves that fight scene from Hannibal. This “homeless man” turned out to be Laurence Fishbourne, lol
- Demore's favorite part is Hannibal and Tobias' dinner, because it's so multilayered. Jeremy is very happy with Peter's introduction
Hugh:
- Will would do better with Abigail being alive, but well... Hannibal is Hannibal
- Red Dragon book and Bryan writing were Hugh's inspiration. In the book Will is having a very hard time but he tries to make the best of this, to stay stable
- Hugh would like to be a vegetarian dinosaur
- if the zombie apocalypse was to happen, he would like Jeremy to survive
- it surprised him how the series resonating with trans/queer community blow up. He found that out mostly last year
- some autistic traits overlap with Will but Will isn't autistic — he tries to protect himself that way, because all the emotions are too painful and the empathy is a challenge for everyone
- Will is complicated. He may be a cannibal but he is still very sympathetic, which is a torment for him
- could Will fall, surrender to Hannibal, discard his empathy, be free? It would be discarding his other part of himself. Will is kind, most of him wishes to do not harm. Surrendering fully to Hannibal would be like a lobotomy. Will always hesitated and chose Hannibal, but he wouldn't stop trying to stay kind, since he is more complicated than that
- he thinks the most important scene from the whole series is the ending of Mizumono
- would he like more people to know anything from his filmography? No. Sometimes when the movie is a disaster, it's better if it disappears (is he talking about Tempo? I guess so, lol)
- dogs substitute people and are like therapy for Will, he probably should stop at seven though
- Hugh forgot Manson's name but he said that the mirroring between him and Mads while starring at each other when Manson was cutting off his face wasn't scripted, it just happened
- how he would kill someone and take care of the body. He doesn't have a plan. Burying them? Killing: poison and guns — boring. He likes to cook and he has some nice knives and sometimes he wonders which one would be the most efficient, so maybe that? (he disclaimered that he doesn't want to kill anyone, lol)
- is Will paying for Bedelia's insulting? Who is paying for that shit? Hugh suggested that maybe it is her who feels need to vent?
- does he prefer acting or theater? Typically, while doing one he wishes he was doing the other one. Law and order blends acting and theatre tho
- [EDIT, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW I COULDN'T PUT IT HERE] funny memory for Hugh is going to drink beer after filming Mizumono, which he also called the worst family reunion ever
- Nolan has a pretty bad relationship with his family, he is a workaholic
- Hugh plays bass
Autograph session:
Jeremy and Lara's silver sharpies spilled but we had more time to chat, lmao. Lara made a heart on the stain. Given Ellen said her favourite colour is purple, I let her use a purple sharpie. At this point I was also aware how big Jeremy's autograph is, so I let him sign my booklet this year. I bought three Hugh's autographs because of the reasons and damn, white sharpie on the poster is wearing down. This time he at least wrote my name correctly though, so that's something, lol.
Cosplay competition:
Let me tell you about the cosplay competition because it was a lot, lol. Imo, it was even better than the last year.
I may be biased but my favourite cosplay was Mizumono Abigail; I was talking with the cosplayer before the competition but I didn't see it coming! She used fake blood and it was just an amazing show. The Ravenstag was so cool! The Stag was amazing, he was even growling...
The ladder won! We were cheering so much, Hugh was dying out laughter hearing the poem about the ladder (Will got called a “hoe” in there). During announcing the results, Ricky was like, “I must have seen the wrong series because I don't remember any maids...”; Hugh said that he wasn't expecting that we would love inanimated object so much and he recreated the scene, lmao. You can just imagine how wild we went then, lol.
Sunday:
Demore had to crouch to hug me for a photo. Lara was really excited seeing the flower crown for her. Hugh still can't do 🫰🏻. I had no courage to take a picture with Ricky, because he really is A LOT and if you saw some pictures with him or his insta story, you get what I mean.
I finally got to meet lovely @sad-wet-cat-hannibal!
Gonna be honest, I was so tired that my notes from panels are very short but well...
Ellen:
- she forgot to return sweatpants to the set of Hannibal. She still has them and they are very warm
- if she had to choose some food as a weapon, she would choose probably vinegar
- they needed four hours to put on makeup for the role of Georgia. At the beginning the “foreskin” of her arm (as she calls it) didn't want to come off when Hugh was grabbing at it, so ultimately they had to use lube so the skin would slide off as it was supposed to happen
- she has two cats now
- she brews coffee at home
- what Georgia's life was before being sick? Cotard syndrome reminded Ellen of lock in syndrome. She thinks Georgia had to have some brain injury that caused her sickness
- the strangest place she was recognised? She was peeing in the stall while speaking on the phone. Someone knocked to ask her if she is that girl from Dead like me
Lara and Hugh:
- which tableaux would they like to be? Tree-man (Hugh), angel maker (Lara)
- what was Freddie the worst libel? Lara thinks that Freddie was operating on the information from the FBI, so the only lair was the FBI actually
- Lara enjoyed riding the horse and using a bow (because of her roles)
- Will wants peace and kindness but he is complicated character
- Hugh laughed that we are crying while listening to Bloodfest
- Will's green jacket was a copy of Hugh's one
- Lara has the jacket with the fur Freddie had for like two seconds (I believe it is the one from Entrée). She also has a piece of clothing that was Chiyoh's
- murder family wouldn't work out. Abigail just couldn't keep surviving like Chilton
- both Lara and Hugh think that after capturing Freddie in Naka Choko, Will had to gag her so she would be quiet and Will would be able to speak
- Hugh would like to have a role with a prosthetic of a broken nose
- Hugh had no idea what was happening in Rwanda before shooting Shooting Dogs
- Hugh really enjoyed playing Grigg Harris
- Lara really liked Freddie's intro music and she thinks that Freddie would listen to something like that alongside some '80s music. Hugh thinks that Will listens to classical music, not as fancy as Hannibal, but yeah
- Hugh started to listen to country music
- what happened with Hugh's character in 50 shades of Grey? His agent asked him if he wanted to be in this movie. Hugh said “not really” and was like, “Besides... Should the therapist be at the patient's wedding???”
- Lara had no idea what she was auditioning for, but when she heard that Lawrence Fishbourne was cast, she was like, “What am I taking part in???”. She watched the movie then and was like, “Oh, so that's Lounds...”
- Hugh saw Manhunter years earlier and had no idea. The book is the blueprint for Will's character
- Lara would like to narrate a documentary about birds
- Will self-loath himself, because he is scared of himself but at the same time he is fascinated with the minds of the criminals
- Molly is more substantial in the book
At the closing ceremony a lot of people cried because Jeremy was so open about his grief that he had to use tissue at some point and he wished us to have a friend like the one he lost.
(their reaction to the ladder and the poem about it. I believe Will wasn't even called “hoe” yet)
Although I was taking pictures only when we were allowed to, I won't post more because I really want to be sure to go to RDC8, lol. Let me just tell you I miss all these people already. 😭
