On December 15, 1858, the opera “The Barber of Bagdad” by Peter Cornelius (1824-1874)was premiered in the Weimar Court Theater. There was a scandal when the conductor of the performance, Franz Liszt , was hissed off by opponents of the New German School. He then resigned his post as opera director. Here an evening ticket from 1891 for The Metropolitan Opera New York, where the tenor Andreas Dippel (1866-1932) performed. Following the opera, the rarely seen ballet “Dresden-China”, a curiosity, could be experienced with 250 dancers.
