Childhood and Youth Neglect and Orphanage: Peter Krug was born in Salzburg in 1966. He grew up in an orphanage for a time because his mother did not care for him. He experienced emotional and physical abuse. He never met his biological father, who wanted to abort him. Chess as a Means of Communication: At the age of 12 or 13, a psychologist taught him to play chess, as it was the only way to communicate with the taciturn and traumatized boy. Chess became a means for Krug to cope with his troubled past. Retreat into Nature: During his early childhood, Krug spent many hours alone in the forest, which helped him process his experiences. Even today, he feels a close connection to nature and embarks on adventures in the mountains. Professional Life and Personal Development Professional Career: After an apprenticeship as a cinema projectionist, Krug later worked as a night porter in hotels in Salzburg.
