2005: Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock) is composed of a steeply dipping Cambrian arkose. Kata Tjuṯa (formerly known as the Olgas), seen on the horizon in some of the photos to the WNW of Uluru, comprises large conglomerates of the same age.
Note: Climbing of Uluru was formally banned by the “traditional” owners, the Aṉangu, from 21 October 2019. It is extremely sad that no-one will be able to enjoy these magnificent views again.
