There are a lot worse things happening in the world right now, but I would still like to share this piece I made of my favourite chicken Stella. She died on Saturday. Ironically I had already planned on posting a photo of her this week, long before I knew she was dying. Instead I had to draw her to channel my emotions. There are probably a lot of people out there who can’t for the life of them understand how you could be sad over a dead chicken, a chicken you didn’t even know for a year at that. I get how it sounds. But she came into my heart already as the tiny black little chick she once was — and then she stayed there. I am going through a lot of guilt for not have been visiting her for a long time because I thought my life was more important, forgetting she was part of it. And I can’t help but think that if I had done, visited I mean, then maybe I would’ve noticed something was wrong sooner, maybe we could’ve saved her. I am not the sole caretaker of these chickens, I was more there as the “mom” and the cuddlegiver, we have so many chickens so no one noticed her being sick before it was too late. But maybe I would have, if I would’ve seen her. Because she was my favourite. She was a good girl.
