When your Florida chickens are cold and making all kinds of racket outside because its 50 degrees, well...you make them some protein, vitamin and omega 3 packed oatmeal so they pipe down. I am sure I will be crucified in the chicken community for feeding them the organic granola buuut it was stale, they are omnivores and it has raisins (which the looove). Remember, no food waste in this house this year! They got pecans, granola with raisins, chia seeds, extra raisins, sprouted sunflower seeds and I added 3/4th's of a cup of their crushed egg shells back into this as well for the calcium needed to make a strong shell for this time of year. Put all the extras in the food processor and wah-la, presto...chicken oatmeal. Sometimes I think these chickens eat better than we do. Spoiled 🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔, but they make mighty fine 🍳. Especially, if you use a veterinarian, need tests done or simply have to purchase medicines or natural remedies. It's worth the up front costs to keep your flock healthy & happy. The transition between harsh seasons, like we are now experiencing, from winter to #spring, has a lot of health challenges linked to it - respiratory issues, parasites like worms, mites, lice, etc... Using an intelligent combination of herbs, seeds, fruit, vegetables, apple cider vinegar, along with good animal husbandry - keeping them & their living spaces clean, can make all the difference, and reduce chances of illness.
