There's a northern lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) in our ditch with its chicks! I've seen lapwings many times, but I've never managed to see any of the chicks. I only saw one though, despite staring there with my binoculars for quite some time. Usually they lay 3-4 eggs. Of course it could be that there are more chicks, and I just didn't see them. Anyway, this does explain why it has been flying over the ditch and screaming like hell every time someone goes outside
