I've been searching high and low for a set of tails for a Phantom costume that I'm doing in the coming months but have had no success. Are there any tips on finding one that won't break the bank but look good?
Thank you for the ask! I always had spectacular luck looking on online auction sites like eBay. I got most of my costume pieces up until 2015 through eBay (lots, and lots, and LOTS of antique/vintage pieces off that site!). That can be very hit-or-miss though, depending on your size and your budget. Some more detailed advice is on my site:

The cheapest tailcoat I got was a $15 former tux rental. The shop was clearing out old stock and I bought it online. I was later able to add some lining to the tails, and some detail on the cuffs and collar (via a local seamstress) to make it look more “Phantom-y”.
I did a quick search and it looked like eBay had several vintage options available, but they were mostly in the $100-200 range. Amazon has a few under $100. Then there’s places like this site who seem to have a few on sale, one of which is a shawl lapel (wrong style, but oh well) for $59.99.
Just curious, what size are you? I might have something that could work. Email me at [email protected] with size and budget.
