It really sucks that people think that all a pharmacy workers job is to put pills in a bottle. It's much more than "putting pills in a bottle" and "slapping a label on it". We're calling insurances and doctors. We're ringing other customers up at the pick up line and at drive thru. We're fixing insurance rejections ( which is different from calling insurance since not every rejection requires a call ) and typing out prescriptions called over or E-scribed to us. We are taking in prescriptions dropped off to us. Not only that, but you're not the only person we're filling for. For example, my store fills about 1200 prescriptions per day. You're going to have to wait your turn. If we end up not having your medicine in stock, don't throw a bitch fit. We'll order it for you or check if another store has it. Throwing a fit won't change the fact that we don't have it. You are not our only customer who is on that medication and no, we can't save it for you. We know how important medications are no matter what its for, but all we can do is call another pharmacy for you. Yes, the computer can sort of determine how much we dispense a month, but new customers throw off that balance. On top of all that, when the pharmacist is doing a final verification ( which is making sure whoever typed it in did it correctly, meaning: right medication, right strength, right directions, right dispense quantity, right doctor who wrote the prescription, ECT. ) they are also checking to see if it's a new medication for you so they can see if it'll interact with other medications you might be on so that interaction DOESN'T KILL YOU. Working in a pharmacy is stressful enough without getting chewed out by customers over something we can't control. Oftentimes pharmacies are short staffed because of corporate cutting hours. Please, try to understand this. We're trying to help, but yelling at us won't solve anything.
