My Favorite new character in season 3 of Foundation:
Donald Trump signed an Executive Order to defund libraries!
SHOW UP FOR OUR LIBRARIES! 📚 CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSPEOPLE!
Here’s a couple actual links to concrete things you can do to help, as determined by the American Library Association, who already stopped this maniac from doing this once. There are many smart & experienced people fighting for libraries & museums, but they need your help too.
This link allows you to send your personal library story directly to Congress: https://oneclickpolitics.global.ssl.fastly.net/messages/edit?promo_id=23577
And this is a straightforward petition you can sign in about a minute: https://action.everylibrary.org/eoimls2025
And if you want an easy way to contact your Congresscritters directly, text 50409 or search for ResistBot on Telegram to email, call or fax you Congresscritters. Libraries support democracy & are the last free reliably available 3rd Space in America. This is absolutely an emergency as serious as any of the other major institutional destructions so far this year.
In a new executive order, President Trump has targeted the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the federal agency charged with

If I had a nickel for every time a at least moderately well known Harry Potter fanfiction I had heard of/read from my teenaged years turned out to be involved in some weird cult shit, I would have two nickels. That is not much but it is weird it happened twice.
At least in this recent case, I hadn't read said fanfiction. I remember thinking that Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality from the description of it sounded like something a pretentious Reddit Atheist bro would come up with, and judging by the fans of the author's philosophy, I was right about that?
The theological implications of Innies in Severence
So in episode six Fields mentions that the church they go to believes that Innies and Outies have seperate souls, which just makes me wonder what the stance of other religions in the Severance world about the severed is. Is this whole "two souls" thing a common belief?
Has the Pope put out a statement regarding this? Would an Innie also have to be baptized?
What about reincarnation? Can an Innie and Outie reincarnate separately? Are Innies thought to reincarnate into other Innies? Could an Innie find nirvana without its Outie?
Do religious scholars get into lengthy debates about this? Does Lumon allow for Kosher or Halal food?
I don't think they would want to bring in too much outside religious influence as it would get in the way of their own corporate religion.
Also, man it is certainly something that both Burt and Fields think that Burt (outie) is destined for hell. What did he do? Man, the weirdness of his own spouse saying that about him. Also, even though Fields talks about Burt's innie like he is entirely separate he also had wholeheartedly believed that he would be together with said innie in heaven like it would be exactly like being with his destined-for-hell husband.
Pour one out to the handsome young businessmen taking the subway who got accosted by Gi-hun's search group due to mistaken for being the Salesman/Recruiter over the past couple years.
Wonder if there was ever a news story/ warning put out about these incidents.
Absolution Spoilers
I like how after discovering that the human (?) molt/skin that he has been chomping down on has his co-worker's face, Lowry takes only like a minute to freak out before going "You know what? Whitby would want me to eat his face" and continuing.
There is just like...........everything wrong with this man.
If the Lowry that went on the expedition is the same one that returned, that must have been a awkward memory when he saw Whitby again.
Been watching X-men 97 with my sister (despite not having watched the original cartoon). And uh, clearly at least one person involved in creating the show really wants to fuck Magneto.
I mean they really did sexualize that old man.
Annoying Ads
The current trend of stupid offensive t-shirt ads on tumblr I keep getting flooded with is both irritating and somewhat baffling.
Like if the advertiser is (judging by the content) aiming at the middle-aged conservative American man, why did they pick tumblr of all places to advertise on. I may not know tumblr demographics off-hand, but I am pretty sure they are not the prime demographic here.
Is it like some plot by those running tumblr to irritate users into buying the no ads version?
Makes me long for the days of weird Pikachu man ad and ads for shaving a certain part of anatomy I don't possess.
Does this count as a boob-window?
I find it amusing that instead of the usual breastplate armor worn by the other Days:
Cleon XVII seems to have some sort of....boob...er pec window?....whatever you call this:
going on. Its kind of like the male version of #fantasyfemalearmor , though at least he does have a force-field protection so it doesn't matter if it is impractical. Having the chain-mail on bare skin can't be comfortable though, is that man just that devoted to showing some skin?
Well, given how often this Cleon shows up nude or in little bathrobe, the answer is probably yes.
every genius who thinks mandatory two-factor authentication is a good idea should be forced to do tech support for a public library that serves a lot of elderly poor people
there's a fundamental trade off between access and security, and as with all choices you really, really want to speak to the people who are going to have to live with your solutions before you take their choices about what to manage and how to do it away...
When there is a moment of dramatic irony you can't speak about
So my sister who is still only partway through Gideon the Ninth said this:
My sister: "So I think I may be shipping the wrong ship. I think I like Gideon with Dulcinea better than Harrow. She is so nice to her and I want Gideon to be with a nice girl"
And I am just sitting here thinking:
Can't wait to remind her about that sentence when she finally gets to the reveal, which at the glacial pace she is reading, will be at least a few months from now
Thoughts on PJO The Chalice of the Gods
The realest part of The Chalice of the Gods was when Percy had to ghost-write his own recommendation letter.
Thankfully this wasn't a concern for me when I was a high-schooler, but this did come up when trying to applying for graduate school when a former supervisor I wanted to write me one originally wanted me to do this (Thankfully I didn't end up needing to).
Mentioned this to others only to find out ghost-writing your own recommendation letter was typical which was baffling. I mean all this talk of academic honesty/integrity during writing stuff in school and this is what is expected?
Getting those letters also felt like a trial, but it was more for having to call people out of the blue to ask for a favor while having anxiety type of trial, than my life being in danger while in a sinister version of Chuck-E-Cheeses type of trial.
Alien Conspiracy books at work
So far I have ran into 3 books at work in the library that have fit the particular cross-section between U.F.O consparicy and religious Christian books. Where aliens are real and also the believe in Jesus. Also mostly (though not enirely from Venus)
I found out afterword when searching more up about these authors that two of them claim they have an alien contact they are in communication with.
Dr. Frank E Strange claimed his alien contact was called "The Valiant Thor", which credit is where, credit is due, that is great naming both on part of the author name and his alleged "contact".
Daniel Fry however, chose the less inspiring name of "Alan" for his.
(Since all three authors think that Venus is made up entirely of aliens that look like white people, I'll assume he looks like this too)
However, Daniel Fry did run for vice-president under the "Universal Party" with another alleged alien contactee in the 1970s so at least he has that.
The thing about Wang Baoxiang including Ouyang killing the Khan in his plans to become emperor, is that also depends on Ouyang living long enough to accomplish that.
Which given Ouyang's uh...less that stellar social skills/ lack regarding anyone else's feelings on his revenge quest, he is kind of lucky that Ouyang was not poisoned to death or died by "friendly fire" by one of his own men before that ever came to pass.
(Granted he could have came up with a different method of assassination but still....)
Like honestly, given the way Ouyang was acting at the beginning of HWDTW, it is honestly surprising it took that long for him to be betrayed.
Was like Geng running interference behind the scene to make sure Ouyang killed before his time and was just imprisoned and not executed?
Wang Baoxiang gets a message report saying "So General Ouyang has started flaying deserters alive....." and has regrets about committing to this particular plan
Uh HWDTW spoilers
He Who Drowned the World: In which Zhu and Ouyang do the less popular cousin of the "Enemies to Lovers" trope: "Enemies to Allies with some sort of S&M arrangement going on"
