Made a new goal sheet for January since it's that time again!! I realized I totally skipped December... it be like that sometimes I guess. Pretty much the same goals as before, but I made the hard ones more achievable and the easy ones harder. When will I finish that book I've had on my reading list? Worked on my pharmacy school application today. I applied (late) last year, so I'm just refining my old application... and oh my god I can't believe I submitted that garbage last year! 🙈 Did the adult thing and emailed my PCP to get some labs done... kinda afraid of it, honestly.

Monday is my first day for the lab tech position!
So freakin excited!! I’m gonna get an ID, login for the computers and have some training! Literally cannot wait!!
But that also means I have to get a ton of work done this weekend. I have a paper that is 25% of my grade in sociology due on Tuesday and I have to finish it by tomorrow night because I’m exchanging it with a girl to edit. I also have an organic chemistry exam on Thursday that is worth 20% of my grade so I really need to study for that too. I am also behind in my development psychology notes so I also have to catch up on that too. So freakin busy this weekend but after the orgo exam I’m pretty much done before Thanksgiving break.
Oh, and my PharmCAS was verified! So the large part of my application is done.
Got the job at the lab!!
The PI figured out how to get me into the system and I have officially started the hiring process! So excited to start working but probably won’t start until mid to late November. Just so happy that this worked out. He was the first PI I emailed and I didn’t expect anything to come of it but now I’ll have a paid lab position!
I also just hit 40.2 lbs down!!! I’m about 25 lbs away from my realistic goal weight and I am so excited. I’ve been keeping up with my workouts and trying to eat under 1500 calories a day and its working!!
On a less happy note, the other lab I was trying to get in was horrible. I had a terrible experience emailing with them and the interview was so awkward so I told the school I found another job and now just waiting for them to tell the lab so I don’t have (got an email for them yesterday about wanting to do a skype interview and I was so annoyed).
On and just a side note, I submitted the PharmCAS last night so now I only have to worry about the supplementary application due in January. Yay!!
Sorry for not posting in forever
I really needed the summer to recoup and remember what it’s like to be okay. I feel so much better this semester. In total, I’ve lost 35.4 lbs from the middle of senior year to now. I’ve been working out 3 days a weeks and trying to eat better. I’m taking organic chemistry right now and I’m really enjoying it. My other classes kind of suck but at least they’re not that hard or time consuming.
I’m also applying to pharmacy school right now and ended up getting a 90 on the PCAT and I think I did well in the interview. Now I just have to finish filling out the PharmCAS and then I’m almost done with the application process.
I also emailed a PI in a lab working on stem cell therapies for fertility and he immediately got back to me and I’m meeting with him on Friday. This is literally a dream of mine and I am so excited and really hope I can get a job there.
There is this other research program I’m trying to get into because I got money to do research and I was matched with a professor! Hopefully I end up working with them to so I’ll be in two research labs next semester which would make me so happy and help my resume for when I’m applying to PhD programs after I get my PharmD.
Overall, my life is going so well and I feel so happy most of the time. I like finally feel at peace and my constant state isn’t stressed. I have no idea what changed but I have no desire to go back.
My Story - School Stats
I applied to about 10 schools. The following are schools that I’ve heard from and my responses.
Midwestern University, Glendale - ADMITTED - Most likely attending! Regis University - Interview Offer Albany COP, Vermont - Interview Offer Rosalind Franklin University (Chicago) - Interview Offer UOP - Deferred Decision University of New England - Interview Offer
Still haven’t heard back from a few other schools but now that I’ve gotten into a 3 year program, I don’t really want to settle for a 4 year. :P
My Story - My Stats
I’m applying for pharmacy school this cycle (2015-2016) and it’s been nerve-racking! Below are my stats. You may find that my GPA may not be stellar, but there are other outstanding aspects of my application that prove I am fit for pharmacy school, which I am very proud of.
Degree: B.S. Neurobiology cGPA: 2.78 (PharmCas calculated) sGPA: 2.52 Last 60 units: 3.5
Licensed & Certified Pharmacy Tech Experience (2,000+ hours): - Walmart Pharmacy - CVS Pharmacy - Rite Aid Pharmacy - Local Independent Other Work Experience (2,000+ hours): - Clinical/Public Health Research Assistant (*with publications)
Community Outreach (1,000+ hours): - Charity events, Relay for Life, food banks, homeless shelters, etc.
Clubs: - Pre-Pharmacy Club - Anti-Genocide Coalition
References (3): - Principal Investigator - Supervisor - Former Pharmacist Supervisor
As you can tell, I have a good amount of related and non-related experience for someone my age. My GPA fell short because of personal issues, but I tried my best to define myself in other ways. This has proven successful, as I’ve started to receive interview offers and have so far received one acceptance!
To be honest, I had some doubt that I would ever get this far. I am both proud and grateful to be given a second chance at chasing my dreams. If you’re in the same boat, there is one very important thing to consider. If the pharmacy profession means more to you than just “easy” money and a stable job (you’d be surprised), stay positive and aim high!
Hello!
Hi! My name is Annie. I’m a 23 year old aspiring health professional that currently holds a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology. My dream job? Clinical Pharmacist.
I’ve worked in various pharmacies for five years now, and am still currently working as a technician at the local pharmacy. Through experience, I’ve learned to respect the role of the pharmacist in optimizing the patient’s recovery and health management.
Where I stand now is still quite a distance from where I hope to be standing in the next 5 to 10 years. I’m working my way there, climbing up, pushing on. I’ll share my stories, experiences, struggles and successes with you here.
If you’re just getting started, I hope I can inspire you.
