A conversation between me and my phd advisor today...

​第一篇论文，主要是提出问题，要用严谨的数学的语言，清晰、准确地把问题从实际背景中抽象并描述出来，并在理论上证明这一问题的复杂性，最后讨论解决它的思路，这些就已经够得上一篇高质量的原创性工作了；第二篇论文，侧重于解决问题，系统地提出一个严谨、全面的解决方案，并能够在一个足够规模的系统上演示它的解决全过程；第三篇论文，需要研究提出方案的可扩展性和工程实用性，做足够的仿真研究，最好能够测试于一个实际系统，因为有很多实际工程需要考虑的因素在原始的数学抽象过程中被忽略了，但现实中必需要照顾到，而且如果对这些因素处理得当，反而能有效地简化你的问题；最后，如果有一些遗留问题需要研究或者有任何改进办法，可以尝试完成第四篇论文；这个四篇论文都应该都能发表在相关领域的国际顶级期刊上。

My PhD supervisor. She’s charismatic, secretive (ALWAYS leaves her office door SHUT), highly intelligent, pompous (but really harbours a great deal of compassion and affection towards the entire human race), loves to regale us with stories of her travels, always itching to get on with her next project….and is constantly disappearing for weeks/months at a time without explanation, returning as if nothing ever happened, leaving those who rely on her feeling betrayed - but we still love and are in awe of her.

Definitely a Time Lady.
