My own headcanons regarding Spy vs. Spy (Backstory and early years) (Part 3)
What's up, folks? Sorry I haven't been able to get started with part 3 as I have been busy with other things as well as being occupied by the woes of Writer's Block and Real World Syndrome, but I may as well get started by picking up from where I left off from part 2.
After spending a few months in the care of their birth hospital's Well Baby Nursery, Black Spy, White Spy, and Phillip Dengler were adopted by three different families when they were approximately four months old.
White Spy was adopted by an elderly conservative couple who were likely in their mid to late 60s. White's adoptive father, who was retired from the Navy, was very warm, easy-going, and gentle, albeit rather clueless and senile. White's adoptive mother, on the other hand, was formal, prim, uptight, overbearing, stiff, judgemental, and very cleanliness-obsessed, but at the end of the day, she still provided her adopted son with unconditional love. So did White's father, of course, despite slowly, but surely losing his grip on reality due to age. Just before they brought their son home from the hospital, White's mother originally thought they were adopting a baby girl, that is up until her husband, despite his impending senility, as well as Kathy (the assistant head nurse) michievously glared at her and suggested otherwise, and when White's mother helped her husband and Kathy change him for the first time, that was the moment she realized the baby she and her husband were adopting is a boy, but that didn't stop her from taking him in and raising him, saying "I guess boys can be dressed up, too." Throughout White's infancy and toddlerhood, his parents took pretty good care of him as they, especially his father, cuddled him and, once he became active and mobile in his late infancy and toddlerhood, gently rough-housed with him. Apparently, White's lifelong love for dogs was thanks to his parents' dog, Willow, a rare albino doberman (a variant of a doberman that I just made up) who was about a year and a half older than him; Willow acted like a big sister towards White throughout his entire youth so she was very protective and maternal, albeit curious about him too.
Black Spy was adopted by a fairly left-leaning older couple who were in their late 50s to early 60s. Despite being left-leaning, they showed strong disapproval of...ahem, communism. Anyhow, Black's adoptive father was very laid-back, easy-going, gentle, warm, nurturing, supportive, empathetic, and fairly optimistic, yet at the same time, he was a tad clueless and forgetful, which was a warning sign that he was on the cusp of senility. Black's adoptive mother was intelligent, hardworking, organized, and cleanliness-obsessed (but not to the same extent as White's adoptive mother), yet very nurturing, warm, and gentle. Throughout the entirety of Black's youth, both of his adoptive parents worked in the medical field (either one parent or the other had to come in every day so they can try to make things work out so one parent can spend the day getting to know their adopted son and bond with him); Black's father was a biomedical technician, while his mother was a pediatric nurse. Not to mention that they both happen to work at the exact same hospital, which coincidentally was in fact the same hospital Black, White, and Phil were born in. Throughout his infancy and toddlerhood, Black was very well taken care of by both of his adoptive parents. Even after a rough day at work, his father or mother (which either one was working that day) looked forward to coming home to bond with their adopted son. Throughout Black's infancy and toddlerhood, his parents cuddled him quite a bit. On countless days, his father was also very playful with him as he would often tickle his son's armpits and belly, and even gently rough-house with him, especially while he was changing him so he can wear him out a little and still bond with him. Apparently, Black's adoptive parents actually had a black and white tuxedo cat named Spike (because Black's adoptive father was huge a cat person to the extent that he even strongly refused to declaw his cat), who was about ten months older than Black. Just like how Willow was with White, Spike acted like an older brother towards Black. For a cat, Spike was very observant, mindful, curious, and even maternal towards his human brother. Spike was also an indoor-only cat, which may explain why Spike was widely loved by his guardians and his human brother.
Phil was adopted by a young hippie couple who looked into adopting a second child (they already had a young child, namely a little girl named Candace). Phil's adoptive parents were all about peace, love, empathy, comprehension, and generosity. Phil's older sister, Candace (who was just three and a half years old when Phil was brought home from the hospital), was very sweet, observant, empathetic, and pretty maternal and nurturing towards her little brother, which may explain why she and Phil had a very peaceful and close relationship with each other from the start. Both of Candace and Phil's adoptive parents were very laid-back, easy-going, empathetic, patient, loving, nurturing, and very supportive towards their two adopted children.
What did the three of them have in common? They were nurtured quite a bit while they were having their basic needs taken care of. Apparently, Phil, Black, and even White were given a sense of autonomy as they grew into mobile infants, and then into active toddlers, such as offering or encouraging them to help out a little while they were being fed, changed, and/or bathed. Luckily, there was one person who encouraged this kind of dynamic for all three families: Kathy.
I hope y'all enjoyed part 3 of this headcanon backstory. Sorry I waited a bit long to get this part over with. I'll be discussing about Kathy a bit more in depth in part 4. Stay tuned. Peace.
