Warren Zevon's 2nd studio album was released on 18 May 1976, nearly 7 years after his debut.
After his debut (Wanted Dead or Alive) failed to get much attention, Zevon returned to session work and touring with other groups, most notably The Everly Brothers, both together and separately (particularly Phil). Phil Everly was one of a number of stars who appeared on Zevon's self-titled album, which also included, Jackson Browne (who produced), Lindsey Buckingham, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, and Waddy Wachtel.
The album peaked at #189, but many of the songs would be covered by other artists, including Linda Ronstadt, who titled her 7th solo album (released in August 1976) after Zevon's "Hasten Down the Wind" and would go on to record "Carmelita" (1977), "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" (1977), and "Mohammed's Radio" (1978), bringing more attention to Zevon (Hasten Down the Wind peaked at #3 in the US and sold more than 1 million copies).
