Green Lantern / John Stewart 

A former architect, social activist, and U.S. Marine sniper, John Stewart was chosen by the Guardians of the Universe to join the Green Lantern Corps, acting as a replacement for the then injured Guy Gardner.  The Green Lanterns are an intergalactic peacekeeping organization dedicated to protecting life throughout the universe. Each member of the corps are provided with a green power ring that can manifest energy constructs and are fueled by the wearer’s sense of will and perseverance.  

Initially, Hal Jordan (another Green Lantern of Earth) objected to Stewart’s selection to wear the ring.  Jordan felt Stewart was too brash and angry to make for a good Lantern.  Fortunately, The Guardians held firm to their decision and Stewart went on to prove himself time and again to be an exceptional champion in countless missions that have taken him across the cosmos. 

Stewart’s distinguished service in the Corps has resulted in a place among the Oan Honor Guard and the position of Corps Leader.  Stewart had additionally served as a member of The Justice League as well as The Dark Stars. 

The great Phil LaMarr has voiced John Stewart in many animated projects; other actors who have voiced the character include Roger Cross, Lil Yachty, Michael Jai White, Nyambi Nyambi and Aldis Hodge.  Actor Aaron Pierre portrays a live action version of the character in the television series Lanterns.

The Green Lantern John Stewart first appeared in the pages of Green Lantern Vol. 2 #87 (1971).
