Il 20 aprile 1927 a Miami nasceva Philip Toll Hill Jr., comunemente conosciuto come Phil Hill, vincitore della 24 ore di Le Mans del 1958 e del Campionato di Formula 1 del 1961 con la Ferrari. Il suo trionfo iridato fu peró funestato dalla morte del suo compagno di squadra Wolfgang von Trips, avvenuta proprio in quel Gran Premio d'Italia che lo rese Campione del Mondo con un punto di vantaggio sull'amico/rivale tedesco. Il titolo 1961 fu il canto del cigno per l'americano Hill, che nel resto della sua carriera non andó oltre tre podi conquistati l'anno successivo prima del ritiro nel 1966 dopo aver tentato di qualificarsi a Monza con la Eagle. Negli anni successivi si dedicó al ruolo di commentatore e restauratore di auto classiche, prima che di ammalarsi del morbo di Parkinson.
