Andrew Robertson has been a key player during Liverpool’s title charge this season (Getty Images)Former Manchester United and Everton defender Phil Neville believes that Andrew Robertson is the best left-back in Europe after hailing his progress since joining Liverpool. Robertson, who turns 25 today, was a low-key arrival at Anfield when joining from Hull City for £8m in 2017 but he has since emerged as an integral member of Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Scotland international captain has featured in all but two of Liverpool’s Premier League matches this season and caught the eye again during their 4-2 win over Burnley on Sunday. That result meant that Liverpool moved back to within a point of Manchester City in the Premier League title and afterwards Neville praised Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold for their form. Phil Neville singled out both of Liverpool’s full-backs for praise after their win over Burnley (Getty Images)Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Neville said: ‘I think what Liverpool have got in Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, they’ve got players that have unbelievable energy, the capacity to run 40 or 50 yards because it allows the three centre forwards to play really narrow. The spaces in these wide areas, only these two people occupy. ‘The full-backs have got massive amounts of energy and a big job to play. It gives them so much balance. Andy Robertson, I think he is the most improved player I have ever seen in the Premier League. His energy, his quality. The best left-back I see in Europe at this moment in time. ‘With Alexander-Arnold and Robertson in the team, Liverpool have a better chance of winning the league.’ MORE: SHOWBIZ Jodie Comer is so good at playing Villanelle on Killing Eve that men are scared of herPhil Neville hails Liverpool star as Europe's best player in his positionJames Argent apologises to Gemma Collins over nasty fat-shaming textsAlthough there are still eight league matches remaining, Robertson has already supplied the highest number of assists he has managed in a Premier League campaign with eight from left-back. That total is the highest in Liverpool’s squad with Mohamed Salah and his opposite full-back Alexander-Arnold supplying seven and six respectively, highlighting his importance to the side. Overall, Robertson has created 39 chances in the Premier League this season, which is only bettered amongst defenders by Everton Lucas Digne (52) and Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier (40). Robertson signed a five-year extension with Liverpool in January and Klopp was effusive in his praise of him, admitting that he has ‘exceeded expectations’ since his arrival. Paul Pogba scored twice against Huddersfield (Picture: Getty)Phil Neville lavished praise on Paul Pogba after his brace against Huddersfield, claiming the Frenchman is ‘the best midfielder in the world on his day’. The 25-year-old took his tally to the season to seven with a double in United’s 3-1 win against the Terriers at Old Trafford. Pogba’s appeared reborn since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment and the Norwegian’s made it one his first tasks to reinstall confidence in the midfielder. Jose Mourinho fell out with Pogba in his last 12 months at the Theatre of Dreams and left him out of his final game in charge of the club when the Red Devils lost 3-1 at Anfield.
