Studyblr photo challenge January 2017 - 17. productivity
20.1.17
Yesterday was a very productive day. I had seminars in the morning and I presented my Essay Plan to my professor.
He was so enthusiast about the author I chose but he wanted me to compare more than a book and to do some research on themes of our course (travel, adventure and melancholie in post-modern novels).
I spent the rest of the day in the library reading EVERYTHING I could get my hands on and I set up a great comparison between Röggla´s “really ground zero” and Don De Lillo´s “Falling man” analyzing traumatic stress and melancholie in these post-modern fictions.
I was so satisfied of my Idea, I borrowed 5 Kg books from the library, I even had to walk to the JFK Library, on the other side of my campus, in the snow, to borrow De Lillo.
Then I got his email: he praised my Idea but maybe it was better to deal with the texts we read in seminar. Therefore I could compare an italian novel by Tabucchi (which I would never read in any language) and a french novel by Jean Echenoz (the german translation is out of stock and cannot be sorted anywhere.).
I was so pissed off.
I´m not going to do this. I´m going to cry and pray that he changes his mind.
I didn´t take literature to work on stuff I don´t care about. In this case I would have taken medicine, engineering, chemistry whatever, and this way I would have had more job chances, y´know, all those clichés.
I want to deal with stuff I like, since I don’t get payed for this, ok?
And I have come to Germany to work in German on German writing authors, I studied German and English studies in Bachelor not Italian and French.
AND I CAN’T READ FRENCH. So even if he is a damned french collaborator at uni he can’t force me to do this.
All this was running in my head and I was so upset.
Then I just remembered I could write my paper with another professor and Röggla fits perfect the themes of her seminar.
Somehow it was a good and productive day.
