As a general rule of thumb, Jaehyun tries to keep his nose out of business that isn’t his own. Key work being: tries. Yet as much as the odd beings of the spirit realm intimidate him, they fascinate him just as much. Despite all of the attempts on his life, he still hasn’t learnt that no, investigating unusual noises, weird sightings and other oddities of that sort is hardly ever a good idea. If Jaehyun’s life were a horror movie, he’d be that obnoxiously stupid character that gets killed off 5 minutes into the film because he lacked the common sense to stay alive. And as such, he concludes that it’s a good thing his life isn’t a cliché horror movie, and that he’s still alive.
In any case, an ‘oddity’ — if you could call it such seeing as he sees odd things all the time — had presented itself before him. A man, standing out in the open, under the pouring rain.
Jaehyun actually did a pretty good job minding his business at first. Because, he explains logically to himself, some mortals enjoy partaking in such silly activities like frolicking in the rain. Different folks, different strokes right? So he patters on under his cherry red umbrella, off to deal with his own business. He certainly wasn’t going to be a nosy Nelly.
But that was what? Two? Three hours ago?
The rain hasn’t let up at all, in fact, it seems to have gotten a whole lot heavier with water actually rising a inch or two above the ground. The grimy water sloshed about as he padded back towards the same street and the same guy was still there. Same spot. Same position — neck stretched out towards the heavens. Unmoving. Just as he’d left him hours ago.
That just can’t be normal behaviour right?
But the man looked so… human. So mortal. Then again, he still has a hard time telling apart the beings from the different realms. Some spirits preferred taking on human forms despite there being no other human being able to ‘see’ them (save him).
Even after having spent quite a bit of time pondering the though as he stood by the side observing the being, the spirit man still did not move.
Vergil wasn’t around. So he won’t be able to help him identify the odditity before him. And Jaehyun can just imagine him saying, “Curiosity killed the cat.”. But it’s not like his words were law… plus, if the male before him were a spirit, he doesn’t look malicious… (how naive, already forgotten that ‘kindly-looking’ grandmother who wanted to eat your guts?)
Too late to reconsider though, because he’s closing his umbrella, and using it as a stick to prod the fellow before him. Doesn’t matter if he gets soaked at this point. If the guy’s bad news, he’ll have to bolt for it all the same.
“Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.”
