sorry for the late post y'all, was busy
i had to compile these two chapters together cuz chapter 7 ended on a cliffhanger >:C
anyway- THE ALIENS WANTS TO MEET OUR DOCTOR
I found Chapter 8 cute cuz it featured Ryland going "first time?" to a fellow researcher.
also Eridians :D Ryland's way of giving things a name will a cherry on top.
we also have to talk about their cute way of communication here too. cuz wdym the large alien ship basically sent Ryland a replica of the star system with their solar system highlighted like "we're from here :D" THEY ARE SO CUTE OH MY GODDDD
plot stuff under the fold
plot stuff: (chapter 7)
- right after the alien ship has stationed itself near the Hail Mary, Ryland Grace decided to try and communicate by moving the ship. AND IT RESPONDS WITH THE SAME VELOCITY!!
- they do more shenanigans before the alien ship sends out a container (still with the same velocity, mind you) to the Hail Mary.
- Ryland Grace takes it and immediately smells ammonia. ew.
- now that he doesn't even know what this hot stinking container is made out of, he needs to use his one hell of a lab for its equipment. BUT WAIT!
- majority (if not, all) of the equipment requires earth's gravity :D AND DR RYLAND GRACE IS IN ZERO GRAVITY.
plot stuff: (chapter 8)
- Ryland Grace attempts meditation to try and provoke a memory. This is successful when he remembers a researcher who proposed to split the ship in half and turn it into a centrifuge to simulate earth's gravity.
- Stratt likes the idea and immediately recruits said researcher against her will. Grace does the iconic "first time?"
- Now with his newfound knowledge, Ryland splits the ship in half and spins it. And the alien ship copies the movement oh my goddd i hope they don't kill our doctor plzz
- Now that he can use the equipment, Ryland uses a bit of his equipment to check the alien container's material.
- It's Xenon. The Noble Gas, Xenon.
- Ryland Grace is understandably infuriated by this but he pushes further and manages to open it and it is basically a small replica of the stars around Tau Ceti. There is one Petrova line that connects Tau Ceti and another star, which Ryland notes is the 40 Eridani, which he also concludes is their home.
- The residents of 40 Eridani is also there to investigate Tau Ceti. They also use Astrophages. THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND MISSION (Ryland promptly calls them Eridians lol)
- Ryland highlights the sun and the Petrova line and sends it back.
- Minutes pass. Ryland gets a reply. Instead of a star map, it's a model of both of their ships. A line is made between the airlock, and the ship itself.
- They want to meet.
