“John Walker," he introduced himself to you, your grandmother beaming at your side as she looked at the tall, muscular, blonde man in front of you. Likely already calculating and cataloguing his genes and how they would look with yours in newborn form. The common biblical name was not lost on you either.
Truly you wouldn't put it past your grandmother to have scoured other parishes until she found one of seemingly excellent build and bone structure, only to deposit him in front of you.
You shook his hand and gave him your name politely, and that's when you felt the air shift behind you. A solid presence staking a claim he had no mortal or heavenly reason to.
Quicker than a cheetah picking off the slowest gazelle. "Father Barnes, I don't believe we've had the pleasure," John was quick to shake hands, and you were left with the small sense of pride swelling in your chest.
For Father Barnes had a large flock to manage, but you were certainly his favorite lamb.
