If we can have real life superheroes like fucking Phoenix Jones, we can have real life supervillains.
Where are all my supervillains that aren't like Lex Luthor? Where are my super villains with petty revenge plots and simple schticks?
Do you have any opinions about the real-life “superheroes” out there? The ones who dress up in costumes and try to fight crime like comic book superheroes.
Not strong ones. If you dress up to go to a children’s hospital, good on you! If you’re making a spectacle of yourself while going to soup kitchens or raising money for charity, I’m a little skeptical about the motivations, but I can concede it’s drawing at least a little attention to worthy causes. If you’re fighting crime, don’t! Unless you traveled to the Himalayas to learn ninja shadow warrior secrets to scour the rooftops and incapacitate without killing and also are the world’s greatest detective, or have radioactive super-senses that let you tell with 100% accuracy (occasional contrivances aside) if someone’s lying, you should not go around beating ‘suspicious’ people up and assuming justice will be served!
I do however recommend if you ever find the time this hourlong documentary on Phoenix Jones, the onetime head of the ‘real life superhero’ movement, which while ending in shame and tragedy is a genuinely fascinating look at a guy who really did give this dumb idea his all, and the both inevitable and unexpected consequences of the kind of actual real dude who would try to give this dumb idea his all doing so.
