There is a new concept for a phone developed by Dave Hakkens, simply titled PhoneBlok. It has not been released, However the concept is close to development stages. The concept itself is similar to Lego’s, the back of the phone has removable blocks on the back of the phone. It’s made so that if something is broken, you can replace the component by simply popping out the block that is broken or if you want better speakers, a better camera, or more storage it is a simple process. Dave is also trying to reduce electronic waste. Consumers throw away 20 to 50 million metric tons of electronic components each year. This phone is a better concept than a normal phone because it has the potential to last forever. This is because of the simple fact that you can fix it yourself or simply upgrade it when ever it is needed. You can also switch the face of the phone if you break it.
They have not tried to partner up with main stream cell phone companies with this concept because they would turn it down because of the effect this product could have on their sales of handsets or general sales. They are trying to make a kickstarter profile to help make this concept a reality. They are also trying to get people such as electrical engineers, software developers, Industrial Designers, and investors to help make a prototype. It is a volunteer basis though, so any donations made are simply for charity and not rights to the product. But it goes for a good cause to help make something that is so good to thee environment in the long run. They are also trying to get people to share on social media sites like facebook and twitter to help spread the word of this amazing new concept for this phone. They also have a place where you can help out with the development process called GitHub. As of today they are still trying to make this into a reality, if you believe it can be a reality, explain your theory below in the comment box.
