FWIW, my take is that I think KP approached Kate with the joint statement but she shot it down and issued her own statement. That version goes along better with the Kate narrative Jobson tells, that she molds her role after Philip's - strength, stay, and support. If that is indeed who Kate is (and I feel it is, with what she's shown us since 2010), then I can see her not even bothering William about it.

Maybe this was the case or maybe it wasn’t but in my pov, it was a mistake to let her doing it alone, after all, William took the picture and because he isn’t an expert, Kate had to photoshoped it even more from what she usually does (this isn’t the first time she has photoshoped pics tho), but at the end was the responsibility of both.

Sure Kate it’s an independent woman who takes accountability of her actions and that’s ok, but she was going through the most difficult time of her life and the least they could have done is for first time going against her wishes and include W in that statement. I still have bittersweet memories thanks for that statement. Because the staff didn’t have enough with Kate owning the mistake, they ran to the press to continue throwing her under the bus and saying that it wasn’t the comms team’s fault but Kate and only Kate, that she didn’t tell them she had photoshopped it, etc. Like they didn’t even take the responsibility that they SHOULD know which requirements a photo they deliver to the press needs to have, they should have asked her if she edited it.

And the worst part is that such statement didn’t even work as they wanted, people were;

1) Saying that the palace threw her under the bus, and the palace is evil.

2) that W is a bad husband and all his leaks about protecting her were a total lie

But Anyway, as you’ve said, owning the mistake is a very Kate thing to do. Specially after knowing that she was pushing the recollections may vary phrase

Yeah, the whole thing was a mess. IMO, they shouldn't have released that statement at all. They should've just released the original unedited photo, credited to William (so everyone understood this was a dad pic and not the high-quality semi-professional mom photo we're used to).

But it is what it is. As long as they learn from these mistakes, that's really all we can ask for at this point.
