Phra Pradaeng is a community and district that is literally surrounded by Bangkok, yet separated from that province (and in the province of Samut Prakan) by the Chao Praya river; even the twin bridges that cross at that point don’t exit directly in the district.

Despite being within proximity of the capital and now smack dab in the middle of an urban zone, that separation allowed the community to develop in relative isolation and preserve much its traditional Mon culture (as well as massive tract of greenery), which is obvious by the sarongs worn by guys at formal/traditional/official events.

One way this manifests is the fact that it always celebrates Songkran a week after much of the nation.
