God it hurts Man it really stings To heal the scabs Where I once had wings

So I sawed away Breaking bones into bits A labor of love That my sadness discredits

I said it was for you But I guess it was for me I thought that I wasn’t Who I thought you wanted me to be

Maybe I thought That a labor of love Could justify me For killing a dove

I guess it’s just me Stranded on an island lost at sea What will I be when I’m no longer me? Can I dance through the sky like the birds in my dreams? As minutes shed their shells and hours become years I find myself realizing that I am not my fears But even with minutes and hours and years of fear I am still stranded on an island. I am alone. Right here.

Eating a peach

Chapped lips meet soft skin, but teeth graze the pit The body revolts against it an unknown danger, unpleasantly met

Like when you went to Sunday school. The scent of your indecision that smell like rotting books On the shelf in an uncomfortable place

The feeling from far below that something has gone wrong The knowledge of irreparable damage The knowledge that you are its maker

The skin parts as teeth slide though but still the heart is unyielding the one thing you wanted most Always out of reach

Face the fear, bite again. Hope that this time your teeth won’t reach, forget the danger underneath, or throw it away to try again.

Pray for something easy, No danger to hide where it cannot be seen, But nothing has the same flavor. Nothing else works for me.
