Getting ready for tomorrow's festivities with physio psych.
I think I'm going to take Advanced Physiological Psychology next semester. I've never taken a physio class before but I've always wanted to...
Some neat things I learned this week (psychology):
Regarding neuroscience and social psychology, I learned that people that are socially excluded (such as someone who is among a group of people and feels excluded from the group), show a pattern of brain activity that is similar to the patterns of brain activity found in people experiencing actual physical pain.
Regarding a social psychology concept that has to do with social influence, I learned that the inventor of the shopping cart, Sylvan Goldman, had a difficult time getting customers to use the carts, even after providing instructions near them and advertising throughout the stores the benefits of using them. Just before he gave up on the invention, he hired a multitude of fake shoppers to simply wheel the carts through the stores. Sure enough, that's what did it; people just needed to observe others first and feel secure about how to use them.
