It was a summer day. The air was warm and fresh at the park, filled with the sounds of birds chirping and children laughing. Alex sat contentedly on the grass beside his girlfriend, Haley, partially shaded by a beech tree. He amused himself by tossing a football up into the air and catching it again, enjoying the feeling of the Sun warming his cheeks.
“This is great, isn’t it?” he said, keeping his eye on the football that was now spinning on his fingertip. However, when his girlfriend didn’t answer for a few seconds, he tossed and caught it in his other hand, then turned to look at her.
Seeing her too fixated on her phone to even hear him, he felt a spark of jealousy in his throat. “Who are you texting?” he demanded before he could stop himself.
