playing through cyberpunk with a masculine V, i am completely gobsmacked by the difference in Johnny’s reactions to V possible love interests. i had heard that he is far more accepting of panam, and i haven’t quite reached kerry’s big entrance yet, but i know from clips that even if asked, johnny says he is okay with V cracking kerry. like he’s literally the only love interest you can ask johnny about his comfort level with it, for obvious reasons.
so WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS GUYS PROBLEM?? i knew from my first playthrough years ago that he hated river, yeah uh huh okay okay. i didnt really pay much attention to how he felt about judy, but now that i have SHEEEEESH. he barely fucking tolerates her on a good day, and he only seems to get snippier the more you get to know her.
and YEAH YEAH I KNOW, cdpr definitely wrote the story for the cis straight dude bros and the rest of us get the same thing but with half-assed branches tacked on, BUT FOR JOHNNY TO BE SO GOD DAMN COMBATIVE ABOUT THE 2 FEMME LOVE INTERESTS HAD TO HAVE BEEN A CHOICE, RIGHT??
like in the writers room, surely there was a “how does johnny feel about the 4 people we have chosen for V to bone?” “WELL he likes panam because she’s a deeply fuck the establishment badass woman and he’s got a track record of being into that, and he can’t possibly be mad about kerry because we sprinkle throughout the game that johnny kind of regrets not giving him a chance anyway. BUT OH YEAH THE COP nah johnny hates his living guts, AND OH the cute bd specialist? well, hm… yeah let’s have him not like her too because she’s too idealistic or something idk” WHAT DO YOU MEAN

hell bruh, i’m utterly convinced that if they gave us anyone else as a love interest for femme V, johnny would hate them too, no matter who they were. OR he would at the very least heavily make light of them. does that make sense?? like obviously if we got panam or kerry, he’d probably react the exact same way that he does with masculine V because they ain’t gonna record a thing twice. and i believe if masc V got river, he would still hate him, but there’s noooooo way he wouldn’t be hyping up judy’s clouds rebellion if masc V had a chance with her. the developers MADE. THAT. CHOICE. but whhhhyyyyy.
