my reaction too.... im so so so excited
I guess I haven't seen the more zealous people that like the theory! I agree, it really does obstruct one of the show's main messages (same for halfgem Connie though i personally never liked it cause it felt like bad writing?) Roses actual story seems more interesting and in depth than the theory so I don' get the hype at all either. But I guess that's a cool thing about the show's expansive plot, there's lots of imagination fuel to have fun with! And to each their own cup of tea I suppose!
i’ve seen some people screaming about it, which probably isn’t helping my reaction to people holding on to it (to be fair they seem to overlap a lot with the people who are calling steven a hypocrite or a bad person, which... says a lot i guess). it just has me baffled, really. but i guess i just gotta go “well okay” and scroll past it.
I remember kinda liking the rose=pink diamond theory back like around/before sworn to the sword when the diamonds were scarcely touched upon and pink was ALWAYS an allusion to rose. I think someone said something cute like, "rose was gem royalty, that makes steven kind of like a gem prince" and that was a neat thought! I agree, I dont see the appeal of it now since the real story seems like it'll be more interesting, but I guess some theories stay in folks' hearts *cough* kurta shal *cough*
it was cool admittedly, but the more i thought about it the more i liked the idea of rose just... being “normal”, as opposed to being a “godlike” diamond. the “rose is pink diamond” theory was, from what i understood, “there’s no way a normal person did what rose quartz did, she had to secretly be a diamond!” which said to me “you have to be born special to do anything important”, and i think it goes against the whole theme of the show really... same as the “connie is half-gem” theories going against the whole basis of her character arc (again, her being a normal person who can nonetheless do things that are great and heroic even though she wasn’t “born special”).
i guess the way i look at it is like... why still push for it? people are bending over backwards trying to come up with ways for it to still be true, and i just... don’t know why. i do not understand it at all - if it was people jokingly doing it (the way i jokingly - and i hope it’s obviously a joke - say kurta shal could still be a thing) it would be one thing but i have yet to see a person who wasn’t completely serious about it?
like... do what you want, enjoy fandom the way you want i guess, but i don’t get why people want to keep going for a theory that was explicitly proved wrong. i wish i did understand, but i don’t get it at all.
I like the unlikely idea of 'reclaiming' kil or just the idea of separating his family from anything in his life, but since its a homophone for 'kill', getting rid of that name feels symbolic of getting rid of his role as an assassin which is fitting
honestly that’s another part of it and the very existence of the nickname is like... it highlights what it is that his family wants from him and expects, which is why i think it sort of misses the point when it’s transliterated as killu. (i should note that while zeno calls illumi and milluki by nicknames in the same vein of cutting off the last syllable, no one else does that for anyone but killua)
in a meta sense, they’re calling him the same thing that they’ve trained him and ordered him to do. it’s isolating the part of his existence that his family wants, underlining the fact that the rest of him they “don’t need”.
that’s why i don’t think anyone else would use it with him. they like killua for who he is, not needing to cut parts away.
at least you're gaining love and not LOVE
I don’t want any LOVE
