🐔 Famously known as Gereja Ayam due to public perception of the chicken-like facade, this building is located in Bukit Rhema within the range of hills in Borobudur area. Actually this long-neglected building has a dove/pigeon (merpati) facade as the builder intended to built a prayers house for all believers in God (this is not a church). Back then it was also utilized as a rehabilitation center for children with disabilities, drug addicts & people with psychiatric problems. However due to the budget limitation & objections from residents in the area, the building wasn’t completed and eventually closed in 2000. 🕊 It was reopened in 2014 as religious tourism spot. There are 7 floors in the building, each philosophically representing human life journey, which is summed up as hope for a better life & a token of gratefulness. The release of popular Indonesian movie sequel, AADC2 which shooting was done here has triggered a hype enticing all travelers to come here & hence making this a trending spot in social media despite the run-down condition.
