So this happened today....Ran my fastest trail 5k. 26:40 official time! Took 1st place in my AG. PR'd the course by 2:05. Won a fucking turkey! 4th year running this race. It's tough, but I love it! I love the trails. I love our state parks. I fucking love that I ran without pain. I fucking loved the taste of blood in my mouth afterwards. I'm a happy girl! Ran a little thing called Ragnar this past weekend. First time for me. Loved it! The runs, the people I met, the friends whom with I shared this experience, beautiful scenery along the way, and the priceless memories. My team was the Winers and Hoppers, and I was runner 1 out of 12. My first leg I had 10 kills and was the 1st runner to finish the leg out of all the 6am runners. I was shocked, but motivated. I'm just a teensy bit competitive, but I enjoy cheering on other runners as well. It is what most of us runners do. I don't think I've ever hugged, high-fived, or laughed with more strangers than in any other venue. Runners are a unique breed, and I am so glad I am one of them. 2nd mini triathlon in the books. 1st one to cause me some serious panic attacks while swimming. The lake was choppy due to boats, and this was my furthest open water swim ever. That's my arm you see to the left of my friend Trisha in the yellow swim cap. Arm looks good. Swim was scary. I had to dig deep not to give up. I'm not sure I'll ever be comfortable in open water. I'm not sure I'll ever make triathlons a habit, but I did it, and I'm glad. Finished in - 1:43:09. Shared this experience with some good friends, and met a few more. This is my first run of the week that felt good. Eventually. I've been feeling some pain, but I'm stubborn, so I decided to push through it. Last night I couldn't manage 4 miles in the heat without frequent walk breaks. Tonight I couldn't stop running. I got rained on twice, and it felt wonderful. I used to love playing in the rain and puddles as a child. I guess I haven't lost that part of me. Competed in my FIRST outdoor triathlon today! For those who know me, I'm quite petrified of swimming in open water that is over my head. I'm not the greatest swimmer. I had to borrow a bike helmet, rash guard, and neoprene shorts from my friends. I rode my old $20 mountain bike! I placed 5th in my AG. I swam 260+ yards in 5:05, biked 9.5 miles in 49:01, and ran 3 miles in 25:51 with negative splits of 8:56, 8:40, & 8:02! I cannot believe it! I believe in setting goals, in checking dreams off my bucket list, and jumping out of my comfort zone. I honestly couldn't have done this without the encouragement, love, support, and push from my incredible friends! This was also my friend Becki's 1st Tri, and my friend Shirita's 2nd Tri! I am over the moon with happiness right now. I cannot believe I'm a triathlete! And guess what? I'm doing another free triathlon in 2 weeks! Hooked? Not sure, but life is too damn short to live in your comfort zone. Changed it up a last night. I finally took my friend's advice, and started following a marathon training plan. I was already running more than enough miles, but not in the right way. I wasn't giving enough time for cross training either. Yesterday, I did an hour of pilates. Didn't feel like enough, so I went for a long bike ride. No music, just me on my old mountain bike, and enjoying the ride. My legs are feeling it today. On Sundays we wear pink. Me? In pink? I must be losing it! I prefer black. It's dark, like my soul! This morning I chose to get up, and run my usual route. Felt good to get it done. It's amazing to me that 7 miles has become my go-to distance. Just a few years ago, 7 miles would have been considered more of a long run. I love how I've changed through running.
