This is first part of a new series of pictures where I have decided to make a Pokemon Fantasy Protagonist Character of every Starter (And starter-adjacent) Pokemon (So Far).
I decided to start this series with a familiar character, but with a twist. This is a what if scenario or perhaps an eventuality in Sunny's story after losing her friend, guardian, and mentor Noctis the Gastly. Sunny is permanently changed from the time she spent with Noctis, she is still Fire/Ghost type with the Levitate ability, and she has taken on some of Noctis's affinity for Shadow Magic and can mix it with her own Light Magic to create Twilight.
While her tail flame no longer has a Ghost living inside it, it's still inspirited with spirit energy, making it hard for Sunny to lie because it will always reflect her true emotions. While Sunny tries to keep a cheerful outward attitude, she still mourns the loss of her closest friend and tries to honor his legacy. Following his example Sunny has taken up interest in inspiring others, telling stories, and wants to make him proud by getting involved in the study of Magic although she does not quite have the same academic mind-set as her mentor and struggles in a purely academic setting, while she prefers imagination and self expression, which has worked for her but also confuses other magical academics on just how she is able to do certain spells while not following any established convention and making up new spells on the fly...whether or not they work as intended is still up in the air.
Autumn is a Bulbasaur Twilight Druid in Training, but he does not come from a Druidic clan, and had no background or relations to any currently living Druids. Druids themselves are rare enough in this world as it stands since their practice have become endangered, but compared to other Druidic circles, the tradition of Twilight Druids are Extinct, Autumn being the only known practicing member.
Twilight Druids are meant to be preservers of the natural cycle of Life and Death making sure that a pokemon's final rest goes undisturbed, stopping anyone who would try to pervert the sanctity of death in their tracks, and disposing of the undead which they create. But in centuries past, as Druids started to be persecuted and driven into hiding, Twilight Druids proximity to the undead caused other pokemon stoking fear that they are involved in dark meant that they were one of the first to go.
Autumn is working on rediscovering the existence of the Twilight Druids and their specific practices. He wants to eventually create a new era of the Circle of Twilight now that Druids have begun to be accepted among society again and are coming out of hiding. In the mean time he also needs this power to stop an undead threat that destroyed his home and got him lost from his family. He is not sure whether or not they are still alright but he will keep searching and has promised himself not to give in to grief until he knows otherwise. He carries a Lantern that he uses to find spirits and a bat of tightly wound up vines that makes an effective weapon against the Undead.
Raine is a Squirtle Soul-Crafter Artificer. The Soul Crafter is not an official D&D Subclass, this is my own idea born from the concept that an artist or craftsman of any kind can put a little bit of themself into their creations. So what if an artificer could do just that and literally inspirit the magic items they create with their own essence. Since this is a Subclass of my own creation, Raine is a first of their kind innovating on this new idea to create completely unique inventions, because they are an extension of Raine's creativity.
Raine's main weapons are a pair of Water Pistols that they can load up themselves with water but also just because they use water to load their guns doesn't mean it's going to stay water or act like water when they shoot. These water pistols are not just the toys you would play with by the pool but versatile instruments that Raine uses to channel their magic through. They can shoot high pressure water bullets, make water streams that curve towards targets in the air, electrify the water stream, shoot explosive jets of bubbles, shoot cold water that freezes on contact, shoot hot steam, turn the water into Hotsause, or maybe a healing potion! The options are almost limitless but they can't just change what they are shooting in quick succession and have to take time to change the water and prepare the next shot so, it's useful to have a standard option to fall back on that works in most cases.
Jack the Eevee, or Jackie LaFay de LaCroix, is the adopted child of Empress Kaida LaCroix and Magician Morgan LaFay. They have inherited the Name and the role of the classic fairytale hero: Jack the Clever Fool. There are lots and lots of Jacks in English folklore: Jack and Jill, Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack Horner, Stingy Old Jack, Jack Frost, etc... It may have been a generic name used to describe any sort of mischievous trickster hero, but there are some who think that all these stories are about the same guy named Jack who had a lot of ongoing stories.
This Jack is determined to add themselves to that list and becoming a legend who is spoken of everywhere for all time, immortalized through their story of being just an absolute mad-lad wildcard who brings a little bit of necessary chaos to the situation whenever they show up.
Storm is a Pikachu Libre Astral-Self Monk, giving her the power to extend her spirit beyond the confines of her physical body and attack with her as a physical force. She is a star athletic student who is always looking to impress her coaches and teachers. She is Serious, Ambitious, Competitive and relentless at pursuing her goals, but struggles to stop herself from working feeling as though she needs to keep up a constant work routine to keep her body and spirit in a top shape to remain a favorite star athlete.
When things are going as they are supposed to she seems closed off, stoic, and single mindedly focused on her next goal which makes her come off as cold and unfriendly but she is not actually trying to be mean to anyone and is always very sportsmanly with her competitors, but she gets into a Zen mindset where her mind is not focused on anything but the present moment. As soon as things interrupt her routine or don't go as planned however, she gets very easily flustered and has trouble course correcting on her own, not that she can't handle a loss since they are to be expected but what she does not like surprise outcomes.
