Percy’s message to Pike in his letter versus Pike’s invocation at Percy’s wedding
anyway I’m really behind on tlovm but I was a tiny bit disappointed that when scanlan tried to kiss pike she didn’t say there was someone else (like she did at a similar time in the campaign). I know tlovm has to simplify the characters and because of storytelling rules they don’t want to set up pike’s feelings for percy with no existing setup and no coming payoff but nevertheless, stuff like this is why I love the campaigns! cr breaks storytelling conventions all the time because of dice and because everyone is playing their own character who is truly at the centre of their own narrative and doesn’t have access to anyone else’s interiority. all the women of vm (and vax lbr) having at least a little crush on percy at some point despite him being the worst possible choice and the majority of them at some point going ‘uh, fuck that actually, that’s an abysmal idea ’ makes this feel so much like a realistic friendship group, and creates so much entertaining messy complexity. this isn’t a complaint about tlovm I’m just saying what I’ve said like ten times already they’re doing a really good job translating it! but a lot of what I love is getting lost in translation. yet again.
The Moment Pike Trickfoot fell for Percival De Rolo.
Trick or Treat?
Once, long ago, before the things Percy didn't like to think about so much anymore, he remembered asking his mother what she loved about his father. And he always remembered the way she'd smiled, warmly, and listed of half-a-dozen little things that were incredibly lame to a young boy but, in hindsight, made all-too-much sense. Things like his laugh, and how he still cooked sometimes, in spite of the castle chefs, and how he was with Percy and the other children.
There were things like that that Percy could find with all of his companions, now. But the first time he'd really seen it, the way his mother had described, had been on the freezing road up the Alabasters, on their grim trudge back to Whitestone for the first time, when a tiny bundle of dirty blonde hair had stumbled out of the bushes, crying and bloodied and scared. Because it had been Pike who'd knelt down, and met the child at her own level, and calmed her down with awkward-but-gentle words.
It had been in a very Pike way, the same way he'd seen her bring Grog down when he let his anger overrun him, but it had also been something new. And though Percy hadn't known it then; hadn't known the child was from Whitestone, a runaway with her father swinging from the Sun Tree; hadn't known he had a role to play in her life, because in her escape she'd stolen something of iron and smoke; hadn't known that Pike, even then, already held feelings for him; in that moment, he'd seen his future wife comfort his future daughter and something had fallen into place.
By the time it happened again, by the time he saw that light in her again, she'd seen the darkness in him, and helped guide it out. And they'd already been something, sort-of, with caring for Mary, the child from the road, between them. But then had come the Conclave, and a botched infiltration, and another moment Percy could never forget. Because Keyleth had panicked, and let loose a spell she hadn't even known the name of, and out of the smoke had stumbled another child with her piercing green eyes full of tears instead of deceit.
Even now, some of the others were still wary of her, still afraid of plots and diseases and wheels-within-wheels. But Pike had taken one look at the kid, angrily, brokenly sobbing for Keyleth to change her back, and in a moment seen right through her. Because what had been done wasn't just a sealing - in that moment, an arcane disguise had become a physical form, and suddenly nothing about Raishan except her memories, not even her mind, had been older than the six or so years she'd tried to hide behind.
One final flick of Melora's hand, and the Deciever had ceased to be; in her place was a hurt, furious child, with so many feelings and half-formed memories that her mind hurt. And it had been Pike who'd seen that, and approached the girl, and then him who'd followed her. And in that moment, Mary had gotten 'Shan as her sister.
Once, long ago, Percy had asked his mother what she loved about his father. But it was only now he understood her answer; now, when Vex asked it teasingly, or Scanlan joked about how insufferable he was in love, Percival Frederickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo-Trickfoot had his own answer.
He loved her voice, even though she hated it, and hearing her sing to herself in the mornings; he loved her warmth, and the light that had helped soothe the darkness inside him; he loved that she was the one to reassure him, now, because she was carrying their third child and he had to be sure she was okay but of course she was okay, she always was; and he loved the way that she could get 'Shan to use her words, even on days when her feelings were too big and it was easier to cry or snarl at everyone; he loved the way she gently teased the tangles out of Mary's hair; and he loved how her short, strong arms felt around him every night.
He just loved her. Simple as that.

and it will keep you safe: a pikeval ship mix about how you may not be able to fix him, but you can hold his hand on the road to redemption and cheer him on while he fixes himself.
i. broken boy - flannel graph: i saw you sitting in your cell like a broken boy / and i know you went through hell cos you lost your joy / and i wondered if you'd ever be free / and i wondered if you would remember me
ii. oh my dear - tenth avenue north: oh my dear i will wait for you / and grace tonight will pull us through / until the tears have left your eyes / until the fears can sleep at night / until the demons that you're scared of disappear inside
iii. from the ground up - sleeping at last: we'll try to document this light with cameras to our eyes / in an effort to remember what being mended feels like / we're home sweet home
and more!
You know how the critical role cast said things would be a little different. What if meant they changed the ships that became cannon. What if Pike acted on her crush towards Percy? What if Vexlath happened instead? It would be a bold af choice because shippers are such a big part of CR but I’d have to respect it.
